    1974 Chieftain 25 "Adventurer" Restoration

Thanks guys! I'm cranking away at it as fast as I can. A little too fast, actually. In my near heat stroke delirium today ("real feel" was 107° by the way) rushing the transom along with no shade I fed my finger into my 18V router... 🤦‍♂️ There was a lot of blood for a relatively small cut lol...

Test fit of the single thickness transom shape I cut. Much to my surprise considering I only did a really quick measurement job with just a tape measure- it fit first try. Was mainly worried about the angles on the sides being right. I recommend if doing this yourself to take accurate perimeter...

Can't keep feeling like I'm avoiding it, transom time.

I finally got to find out what the stairs and raised cockpit deck area looks and feels like. Really liking it so far! Aside from the six 1.5 cu ft blocks of flotation down in the center stairwell section there is also a nice big empty storage area (I'm hereby calling it the hold!) measuring...

Thanks, I just had to do something different for some reason. Is the retro looking geometric silhouette of an "A" for Adventurer a touch too subtle? 😅

Sliding door delayed again, had to finish floors in that area and get them riveted down good first. First two floor panels, flotation packed and permanently installed! Riveted in stairs last night too.

should i cut the floor back ?

I still haven't decided on the thickness for mine. I was thinking I'd do a single 5/8 sheet as the door, cut out opening for window and glue on plexi glass. Then add a 1/2 ply wall to cabin that the door will slide behind. That way that surface can have things mounted to it. The aluminum skinned...

anyone ever do this on chieftain 18?

Looks like it rolls up to store instead of folding it up or unsnapping? That looks like a sweet setup! The tonneau would probably work great for that.

Got a little sidetracked cutting the other plywood pieces for the cabin first. Door and stairs are next for sure.

This was a tough call- but after much deliberation last night I ultimately decided that due to deck height changes to open up floor space, it makes a lot of sense to also move my stairs all the way up to the cabin wall, thereby losing over 2' of the large trough/stairwell it would've had. This...

should i cut the floor back ?

It really is a tough decision! After much consideration I am 100% sold on the sliding type door as well, so our Chief's will be similar in that way. I mostly planned mine out last night after 10+ mind changes lol and am building it today. Which way/side do you think you'll go with the slider...

should i cut the floor back ?

Thing looks huge with the wall out! Great perspective shot of the layout. My cabin walls were replaced at some point and do not go all the way to the hull sides. I'm going to put a filler piece in later to correct that. My wall is 3/4" thick and connects into a channel that runs across the top...

Bathroom floor Kitchen floor This is the piece I dreaded cutting most. After some careful measurements and planning- it worked out great first try luckily! Scalloped edges done with a jig saw easy enough. Nice and splintery edge, check. Quick edge routing with 45 degree angle on bottom...

should i cut the floor back ?

That's right, my bad, I was really tired reading this and forgot the door was missing originally. 🤦‍♂️ Seems common as my Starchief was missing its door too.. I like the sliding door idea the most. It seems any door is a bit of a pain to make it work just right especially on a boat that flexes a...

should i cut the floor back ?

I'd just trim the bottom edge back to where it works. I mean, why not? If you ever wanted to be more original you could add a little strip back to the bottom if redeck was removed. That seems the simplest to me. It's cool that it has what looks like the OG aluminum door!
