    I have taken apart motors that were laying outside.----Exposed to rain / wind / snow for years.-------Unless water pours directly into the carburetors , I found little damage to bearings.

    The surface needs to be clean and true to seal.----Visit your local machine shop and have them use an end mill to fix this.

    May have to check driveshaft length.----Will have to change shift rod.----Shift rod need to be set at the correct height.

    There you go , get a factory starter.---Have battery load tested.

    Maybe exhaust relief is blocked / plugged.----Or crankcase compression is low and unable to overcome water pressure.

    Inferior materials sold online.-----A common problem.----Visit your local Mercury dealer and install good stuff.

    There should be an o-ring that goes into the groove just below the spline.----Very important to keep water out of the joint.

    You are pushing key in and holding it in while cranking it over?------Step #1 is to post compression test results for this issue.-----Sounds like low compression in the CRANKCASE might be a issue.

    There should be a spline at the top of the driveshaft.----Slides into the spline in the crankshaft.------Post pictures here.
