    I have been around sailboats since 1980.----I would not leave the marina with a motor mounted like that.----Hopefully you installed a new impeller in the 1984 / 85 motor every 5 years.

    Do the following.----Get 1-5/16" socket on flywheel.-----Remove sparkplugs.-----Turn key to on.----Turn flywheel and check for spark.

    Not connected to the gearcase oil cavity.-----If it was , the gearcase would have come to a dynamic halt long ago.

    Agreed ---a bent / warped exhaust housing might be the problem.-----Those shafts are known to fail and it looks like someone cut it with a " hot knife" ---a clean cut.

    Install factory coils and you are good for many years.----They rarely fail.

    Remove the power head , if the top part of the shaft is stuck in there it needs to come off anyway.

    Saw a fairly new Suzuki 25 HP 4 stroke abandoned at a dealer.----Issues with power head.----Lower unit was sold.----Just a parts motor.----Know of a Yamaha 90 4 stroke with severe internal corrosion at head gasket area.----Dealer said he was not going to fix it.----Have a 50 Yamaha 4 stroke here...

    Many 4 strokes are not rebuildable.----Cost of labor / parts is way up there.-----Picked up a 150 4 stroke 2004 with water getting in the engine oil.----Owner bought new motor as did not want to wait for it to be repaired.--
