    Post the results of a compression test.----And check to make sure it has spark on both cylinders.----Sounds like it is running on just 1 cylinder.

    Put it in some vinegar for couple of hrs.----Cleans it up.-----If it opens and closes 6 times I would re-use it.---Or $25 / 30 for a new one.

    On a 2 HP or 300 HP motor.-----I am guessing it is for the tell tale or water pressure gauge.----More pictures to show where it is on the motor ?----Model # of the motor ?

    Shift rod has to be set to a specific dimension.----Was that done?----Is motor long or short shaft?

    Need to be clear.----Were there back to back seals below the shift rod housing ??----This unit shifts with oil pressure and unit needs to be full of oil.----No it is not electric shift.----If it slams into forward at high revs it can damage the clutch dog.

    Most old time boat shops will have the parts on hand.----And 1960 was the last year for a bronze bushing on the wrist pin.----Do a complete evaluation on this motor before spending any beer tokens.----Gears / gearcase bushing above pinion / thermostat / compression test.

    The lever on the control box is NOT the choke !---You may have a bad o-ring seal in the gas line fittings.-----I used to replace those for folks 50 years ago.----Tiday at $2 / minute most shops ask you to buy new fittings.
