    Tested the driver coil ??-----Are breaker points absolutely clean and set properly ?----Find the reason for the issue.----In 50+ years I have never needed to turn a motor with a drill.-----I do not use the " crank and hope " technique!!

    Not sure where you are looking.----Just a few clicks and I find a stator with 2 yellow wires.---Ouch--$450 or so.

    If the coils are original they will be cracked.----All of this vintage Johnson / Evinrude have had coils replaced if they were regular runners.-----Only one way to find out and that means removing flywheel !

    Agreed those dock busters had 2 pinions to actually run the motor in reverse.-------There was no reverse gear on those to rob them of power.

    Pop the flywheel off.-----Use the 3 threaded holes in the flywheel for a puller.----They are 1/4-20 NC thread.----Do not put screws in too far.-----Coils might be cracked.-----Install new water pump impeller before launching the boat.----Is the flywheel nut loose or is that the wrong nut...

    Likely just need to clean the breaker points.----That is if spark is the issue.-----These motors are so simple to trouble shoot.-----Motors sold privately usually have issues as well.

    Is the oil level correct ?----Filled from bottom til oil came out the vent ?---Did you do any shimming to make sure you have correct tooth contact?----Or just installed the shaft and closed it up ??-----I don't think that oil is the issue here.
