I have had enough winter and snow in N J.

Where did you go to in the US? I have been to Canada many times all for the F1 Race in Montreal, always had a good time there, people were always friendly even though my French is pretty limited.

I have had enough winter and snow in N J.

I have lived here for about 44 years, before that Westchester county for about 12 and before that Brooklyn as a child (1958-1968). Long Island's peak IMO was in the late 60s early 70s when Grumman and Republic still had a lot of high paying jobs and taxes (real estate) were not out of control...

There will be a shortage of parts in areas that had freezing temperatures for the first sustained times.

You know the other reason I got those was because of the sandy slimy boat ramp at my local beach assn. Don't want to be sliding there. Even tho the boat's not big it is quite heavy. I found that rather than using snow tires like I used to, either the GW Duratrac or General Grabber AT work very...

Volvo Penta engine coupler runout … aka wobble

I wonder if the rubber got tweaked by the force of the driveshaft getting violently yanked out. Or, could even be that the boat was run with bad alignment for years, who knows.

maybe changing from 4.3 liter cobra to 175 Suzuki outboard on a Starcraft Islander Islander.

Look at Ted's conversion thread, he did a lot of these calculations.... regardless of what people say I do not like open transoms especially on smaller boats, if I ever did a conversion to OB on a formerly I/O boat I'd want a closed transom, nice scuppers for drains and a bracket. The issue...

I have had enough winter and snow in N J.

I could not live in Fla year round, too hot but I have had it with NY: property taxes ($13,000+ for a small house) unaffordable housing market for youngsters--bad for a generation of young people high cost for fuel, electricity and insurance (although not as bad as Fla and Cali) 4 months of...

maybe changing from 4.3 liter cobra to 175 Suzuki outboard on a Starcraft Islander Islander.

The outboard puts different force to the transom than the I/O does and the weight is distributed very differently. You can't just add an outboard bracket and replace the transom as it was designed for the I/O the transom itself must be strengthened, but you're planning on that I can see. Don't...

I have had enough winter and snow in N J.

you know there are parts of the USA with exactly that weather. if I ever can get out of New York, that's where I want to land Southwest! Nothing rusts, cars/trucks last decades, and wood cores in boats don't rot, no moisture!

Charlie, you know that we don't usually get snow here in Long Island before Christmas and now it's snowed twice already. Unusual and for the weekend it looks like we could get the same as we did last weekend (3"-4"). Fired up my 2 stroke Toro (ole smokey) and had some fun. Glad I put these on my...

Volvo Penta engine coupler runout … aka wobble

When the outdrive separated from the transom mount did the driveshaft pull out of the coupler or was it broken off and one end stayed in the coupler? if you are seeing the same run out of the center section then I'd get a new coupler. Something was wrong either from the start (defective) or...

Just thought I'd share a nice photo.

I have an original Lionel O gauge J Class with the Powhatan Arrow passenger set. Got the engine for Christmas I think around 1962 or so, used it as child and forgot about it till about '94, pulled it out and rewired it, everything worked including the light, smoke and whistle. Finally bought the...

Question about paint chips in fuel system

Unless that 10 micron isn't really a 10 micron! I know there was some discussion about this in reference to Sierra's self-certification of their filters. Might be worth it to switch to Racor. Just watch that extra gasket.

Question about paint chips in fuel system

Just thinking of the difference in fuel flow from idle to 4500 rpm in terms of GPH makes you realize the effect of fuel restrictions..

    Good Ear muffs

True, the only real test of an impeller is when the lower unit is in the water.

    Good Ear muffs

I used to use the Tempo rectangular dual inlet muffs but the stiff rubber and rectangular shape just didn't seal that well.

That carb had the nipple built in so you can use a standard flame arrestor

Just thought I'd share a nice photo.

I was driving up to the F-1 race in Montreal QC like we do every year and driving a rental Chrysler Pacifica (nice vehicle for trips by the way). After we crossed the Canadian border and were in an area of mostly farms (La Prairie I think) at about 1:00 AM this deer, or moose runs out in the...
