How does the raw water cooling system on the 4.5L dump water when the tstat is closed?

As AD's picture shows there is a more direct path for water to go to the exhaust, which most of it does until the engine reaches temperature and opens the t-stat. The poppet valve controls a secondary feed to the exhaust in higher engine speed situations.

MPI fogging mixture vs fuel return

FWIW - my engines (6.2 Merc) each burn 1.5 gallons per hour at idle when cold and go down to about 1.1 gallons per hour when warm. So, I'm running the engines (separately) for a full 30 minutes to make sure enough mix has gone to/through the system to purge the straight gasoline.

MPI fogging mixture vs fuel return

Just as long as the engine is run long enough so that the fuel mix makes its way to the fuel rail and purges the straight gasoline. That may be a couple of minutes vs. the 15 mins or so that the service manuals describe.

MPI fogging mixture vs fuel return

Just be mindful, that I drain the fuel tank and then add back in about 8 gallons of the 10:1 mix for the winterizing process. If one were to add oil to the remaining fuel at the end of the season, it may only be practical if the tank were fairly low. Since I hardly ever let the fuel tank get...

MPI fogging mixture vs fuel return

Essentially you have to purge the non-mixed fuel from the fuel system. So, you attach a 10:1 mix to the incoming fuel line. It goes to the fuel filter where it meets up with a bunch of straight gasoline, on onto the pressure pump and fuel rail. So,initially the engine sees very little of the...

    Anti-freeze Question . . . Change of Color ???

Well, the boat is winterized and just awaiting the winter tarp. I did find a couple of threads on RV forums regarding AF loosing its color . . . no real detail though . . .

    Anti-freeze Question . . . Change of Color ???

Yes - I drained water from both the supply tank and the heater tank then added AF to the supply tank and ran it through the plumbing system via the various faucets waiting for the pink color of the AF to appear. Cold side . . . no problem. Hot side - came out clear. But after a while it was...

    Anti-freeze Question . . . Change of Color ???

Thanks guys. I'm not sure if my heater tank has a bypass valve, but that would certainly work. The water heater looks like this. . . Not sure which/where a by-pass valve would be? The drain that I use is the faucet on the lower left. Of course, being a boat, where the tank is located it is...

    Anti-freeze Question . . . Change of Color ???

OK, I know that the color of RV/Marine antifreeze is insignificant and more arbitrary. However, I've had a fairly strange occurrence in my winterizing last year and now this year. It seems that on the hot water side of my boat's plumbing system the AF goes in pink (or red for the -100˚F) and...

    My boat is being a boat . . .

My hopes are that the ceramic does a better job than regular waxing. If I do the swim deck, it won't be as elaborate as the Formula and would be more of a '2-step' (female mold, finished part) process, rather than the '3-step' (plug, female mold, finished part) that I used before.

    My boat is being a boat . . .

For the big 'W' . . I pumped out 46 gallons of gas from the fuel tank and have mixed up 8 gallons of the fogging mix to go back in the tank for fogging while I winterize the engines.

    My boat is being a boat . . .

2023 Boating Season is in the books. . . The boat managed to behave itself fairly well for the rest of the season, but we did not ask too much of it after having the cooling system woes. . Next up is the big 'W' and planning for upgrades over the winter. Projects on the list are: LiFePO...

    Quit My Job . . .

Quick Update . . . The re-upholstery business is quite slow. Lots of shops are bidding for jobs at a fraction of last year's rates. I keep getting under bid by leaps and bounds at pricing that was a slam-dunk last year. Not sure where it will all lead. I'm hoping to get a few Formula Sun...
