    New Boat Launch Ramp

Yes, there were many job super's today, as great progress was made on the ramp. . . . . . It does not appear to be all that much steeper than before, but it is supposed to go a lot deeper. It is a good thing I lowered the bunks on my trailer, as I need all of the float-off I can get...

    Lowering the bunks . . .

The boat is now on the trailer and this is my first look at the result of lowering the bunks. Looks OK . . . . . . I certainly would not want to go any lower as there is only a few inches of clearance from the keel to the cross-members.

    New Boat Launch Ramp

I happened to think that Bondo is a wonderful person . . . Regarding the ramp . . . progress made. It looks like they leveled out some of the stone pile and have started to place the new concrete pads for the ramp. I talked with some of the construction folks and they said it would be...

Thinking about converting surge brakes to electric - Tri-Axle Trailer

I pulled the boat out for the season today. My local ramp is under re-construction, so I went up to the next harbor/ramp to haul-out. It is a fairly steep ramp, but 4WD Lo was no problem. I'm going to be on the lookout for a 2017-> F-250 Gasser w/ 4.30 differential, as they are rated for...

    99 Monterey 276 Transom Replacement

Now would be a good time to figure out where the moisture/rot is and isn't. You can drill a bunch of test holes, use a moisture meter, etc. to map it out. That will determine your 'plan of attack' and what to cut and where.

8.1 GXI-J Cranks but No Start w/ Diacom Logs

IMO - it is not worth chasing possible causes. You are probably going to have a new engine (at least a new long block) and can start fresh. Usually, the center & rear cylinders get the water from a leaky exhaust. IIRC, the headbolt that snapped was at the front of the engine. Hydrolock...

7.5 Merc. Cooling system issues? What is this tube?

I am not sure if there is a t-stat on these engines, but mine is 10 years older than your 1979 model.

7.5 Merc. Cooling system issues? What is this tube?

I was not sure what that was, but I do not see that on any parts diagram for the motor. That passageway feeds water to the exhaust (not the only water feeds to the exhaust - there are more). So, that 'tube' . . . probably not supposed to be there.

    Hydra-sports question

Here is a picture of a 1990 Hydra-Sport transom rebuild. So, we know the transom is wood core. Probably the rest of it is the same. You can Google some restoration threads of that era for more pics, etc. . . One thing to check about the Hydra-Sports is the fuel tank to see if it is secured...

7.5 Merc. Cooling system issues? What is this tube?

The copper tube feeds the water from the water pump to the powerhead. There should be a phenolic washer where the arrow points. Maybe it came up with the powerhead, check to see if it is there. Also be sure the water pump has the larger plastic tube that mates with the copper tube during...

    New Boat Launch Ramp

Our local boat launch ramp is getting replaced. It seems like they are re-grading it to make it steeper by the looks of it. The stones are placed over the existing ramp. I'm not sure on the construction method so far; it appears that more than stones will be needed to re-grade . . . perhaps...

    Quit My Job . . .

New Tires . . . $1,000 Alternator replacement . . . $1,000 Brake job . . . $600 etc. Often comes up to $300/month, but never any consistency, so the money does not get allocated.

    Quit My Job . . .

The Admiral has the steady income of the household. Mine is here and there. She does a monthly budget, but tends to underestimate or not include all of the costs (things like . . . auto maintenance, house maintenance, boat maintenance, etc.), so there is a constant 'dream' vs 'reality' going on.

    Winterizing questions

First Pic . . . Sea water pump and sea water strainer. Water comes from the outdrive (or a thru-hull fitting) and goes to the sea water strainer first (where marine life/debris is captured) then onto the sea water pump. Third picture . . . that is a flush adapter. It allows you to get water...

Those with MPIs what do you do with your leftover storage gas mix?

I have the 6.2L versions, similar to the new 4.5L. The fogging mix is about 10:1 as specified in the manual, IIRC. Since I don't like disconnecting the fuel line to run the fogging mix from an Aux tank, I empty the main fuel tank and add about 5-10 gallons of the 10:1 fogging mix then run the...

    . . . and I Thought Hi-tech Boat Engines Were Bad . . .

I like some of the tech, be it on cars or boats, but it seems like it is less than bullet-proof.
