    1980 Mercury 9.8hp outboard

Probably some impeller bits went up into the cooling passages . also if it had overheated, there is a plastic washer at the top of the copper intake tube that can melt. and restrict the water flow. Not sure when Merc changed to the phenolic material.

If you have a roller trailer used in salt water....check this....

    I don't care what Boston Whaler recommends . . . I'm keeping the roller trailer . . . maybe I'll get bunk rollers as a compromise :ROFLMAO:

If you have a roller trailer used in salt water....check this....

I'm re-building my small trailer used for the Boston Whaler. It is an older trailer (Yacht Club brand). The frame is galvanized, but many of the component parts are regular steel. Leaf springs and associated hardware have a certain life span in salt water. The roller mounts have some...

Showing the Boston Whaler 13 some TLC . . .

Yup . . . It was all polyurethane about 5 years ago. The sun had its way. I also discovered that the bilge pump is not working. So, I have a new one to install.

Buying used items. What's the worst thing a seller has ever tried to do to you.

Wouldn’t the krazy glued zipper be a red flag?

    Removing trim senders screws

I would try some heat on the gimbal ring as close to the screws as you can get, followed by some freeze spray right on the screws. Also, you could see if you can get some Barnacle Buster to soak into the screw threads for a day or so. The screws are small, and will snap off easily, so you...

    My boat is being a boat . . .

Speaking of beer . . . it was a nice day with calm seas on the water yesterday at a local hang-out spot. However, our day was cut short when we ran out of beer and could not call for an air-drop. We have now assigned an assistant beverage supply officer to make sure this incident is not...

    My boat is being a boat . . .

Cheap ownership went out when I got rid of the sailboat ⛵️. It is more of a fun thing to try to control costs 😀

    My boat is being a boat . . .

Quick update . . . The Admiral gets discounts on fuel with a loyalty card at the grocery store (Stop & Shop), and she sure buys a lot of groceries. Well the 'points' have accumulated to $1.30 off per gallon for 20 gallons. So . . . we'll be getting 20 gallons in jugs today, which will bring...

i need parts and dont know where to look

Remove the outdrive to determine if it is the engine or the outdrive that is seized. What size engine? The engine should be either a Ford or a GM. For V6 & V8 GM engines will have the distributor on the back of the engine. If the engine is seized, then you probably will be taking it apart to...

    New-style 6.2 SeaCore Closed Cooling Question . . .

On my Orca (SJE) heat exchangers, the anode was more than 50% gone after 3-4 months. The H.E., being copper is fairly high in the nobility scale, IIRC. but as you say, not a bad idea to add one if possible.

    New-style 6.2 SeaCore Closed Cooling Question . . .

I'll take a look next time out on the boat to see what the threas look like and how much space there is within. there is nothing on the Mercruiser parts list that indicates an anode (I find that strange)

    New-style 6.2 SeaCore Closed Cooling Question . . .

Greetings, Since buying my 2016 CY 338 w/ twin Merc 6.2 SeaCore I/O's I have wondered about an anode for the heat exchanger. There does not seem to be a place for an anode on/in the heat exchanger. My previous boat w/ aftermarket (Orca) closed cooling had a place for the anode, but I have yet...

    My boat is being a boat . . .

Yup, I figure that it is only about 35% of the annual cost of ownership. I usually try to put about 80-100 gallons in on land before launching and then do some replenishment from jugs. With $1.50/gallon extra at the marina, there is a bit of an incentive to do the schlepping.
