I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Yesterday we went to a birthday party for an 11 y.o. Pretty neat that it was on this 30 foot pontoon boat with dual water slides on the stern! :D The whole thing went really well and both my wife and the boy had a great time in and on the water. Met some new folks, had some food, listened to...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

I worked on the second storage box today and found a much faster and neater way to drill the hinge and relief holes. I just clamped the assembly into place and made a single pass with the drill, going through all 3 layers of aluminum plus into the plywood. Simple. I got all the...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

After my shower, a FedEx truck showed up with a package and the driver got stuck in my yard. Silly southern boy didn't know how to drive in the "snow" around here. Gave me an hour of entertainment while he and another driver tried to get going. I finally got involved and helped to physically...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

So last night I changed my sleep pattern in an effort to get outside earlier when it's "cooler" in the garage. Didn't work out too well. Yes, I was out there and working at 0630 but by 10:00 I was too sleepy to work. I toughed it out for another 45 minutes then gave up and went...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Got the second seat box riveted up and the wood cut this morning. Oh yeah, my young buddy came over yesterday and picked up the KF trailer to do the extension welding. Moving along here... :D I took a different approach to framing the seat box end this time. Instead of using the little...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Got one seat box riveted up today and the wood cut to shape. And in the process, my cheap carp circular saw gave up the ghost. Completely shot. Only had it 14 months and used it maybe a couple of dozen times. :yell: Rivet rivet! :frog:

More good stuff happening today! The boy and I made more brackets for the seat box bases. Taught him how to quickly find the center of the squares and then let him do the hole punching with the drill press. Also taught him how to use the depth stop as well. He's learning and doing great...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

I worked a couple more hours this morning and made more 1" x 1" brackets and modified the old seat hinges. I really do like doing the aluminum work. The fun part of the project! :) I cut the hinges to a standard size then put them into my vise and "gently" whanged on them with my rubber...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

But on the plus side, this morning I did get started on constructing the storage boxes for under the seats. :D I was sitting there looking at the 4" x 1.5" x 1/8" aluminum angle stock and wondering how long it would take for me to cut sections down to the right sizes for the boxes. And...

    Missouri 1983 SuperSport 16

A couple decades ago I used an adjustable hole saw to cut through the fiberglass & wood dash on my old boat and it worked fine. They're still available. This one goes from 1 to 6 inches in diameter. Like so:

The boy and I rolled the KF back into the garage this evening. The garage isn't fully cleaned or cleared yet but it's good enough. I want to keep the boat inside for awhile longer. ;) Another pic of the KF in the great outdoors this afternoon.

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

This morning I rolled the KF out into the sunshine for the first time after painting the black accent color 5 1/2 weeks ago. It didn't immediately melt so I guess it's doing okay! :D I've been really busy with yard work, tree trimming and other stuff lately. Getting the KF out will allow...

    Just picked up a 1983 15' Holiday

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Mehhhh... it's more like a wedding tent I think. The sides could be up or down, depending on need. This is a pic from the sales website. This is mine a couple years ago with the sides down and the covered KF inside.

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Not much happening here. We did go out and install the tarp side panels onto the shelter this morning and man are they ever bugly! Even after pressure washing. Blech. But it's a start anyway. Today was another arbitrary "completion" date. Tomorrow the boy goes back to school and I'll not...

Hey, I already have my Master of Space Operations badge from when I was in the USAF Space Command so maybe I could help get the Intergalactic mail delivered on time?

    Dad's old boat 1968 Starcraft Jupiter/ Merc 650

I used Titebond 3 which is waterproof. Then I seriously "clamped" everything together.

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Hahaha! Yeah, I suppose that I could put the boy to work after school. :biggrin-new: As for the tarp... man, I just dunno anymore. We were busy with errands today, the weather didn't cooperate much and it's also my wedding anniversary so we didn't get much done. However, we did go out and...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Yep, been thinking about that since last night. The 1.25" round tubing strength from the tarp shelter is far less than the original 2.25" square tubing used to support the 9' long x 36" wide steel panels. We measured the wall thickness of the round tubing at 0.032" and the wall thickness of...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

The boy and I went out there this morning, pulled the uprights and started configuration testing with the panels I had on hand. Came up a bit short. I only had 6 panels; 4 gray and 2 green. Am checking into options. I can probably buy additional color matched panels from the...
