Original sterndrive ratio for the Glastron/Carlson CV-27

Or the tach is off. Can't imagine that setup spinning at 5k with a 23p

First time winterizing 4.3 mercruiser, alpha one.

It will take a lot to convince me that the corrosion that an empty, fresh water flushed block sees over the winter is anywhere close to what it sees when pumping (and then sitting) warm salt through it during the season.

    Gimbal Bearing Science

You can put in the bearing either way. Merc specified it the way it is so that the bearing and carrier would have to be replaced as a unit. Apparently people were just replacing the bearing and they were failing prematurely. That's the rumor anyway. Dunno if it's true.

    Unrepairable Boat ?

I'm sure they will, for the right price. Have you called them?

    Lower unit lifter. Solenoid?

Odd that the throttle switch works, and the aft switch doesn't work but you get a click. You'd think that if the switch clicks the solenoid the switch wiring is ok, and if the throttle switch works then solenoid is good as well

    Gimbal Bearing Science

I mean, it wouldn't be sealed at that point. Curious if anyone has actually had a quality sealed unit fail without water intrusion. Theoretically should be more resistant to water as well.

    Battery discharge. ...normal?

You ain't got no fancy electronics. My car gets unhappy after a month or so of not driving. Yells at me about abnormal battery discharge, won't let me drop the top or roll down windows, and I'm all, "hey, you jerk car! It's not abnormal after a month of not driving!". And then I start it and it...

    Thunderbolt 5.0 keeps dying

No, it wouldn't. You shouldn't need one unless you got a bum pump (I got one putting out 8psi that caused the carb to flood)

    Alternator wiring issues

I ran into this issue in the spring, pita to figure out. Turns out the fuse was barely connecting internally. Enough to sorta sometimes charge and give me weird readings. Lemme see if I can find my post Edit: here. Guess it was spring before last...

    Wrong hose?

That probably isn't the merc part number that's printed on your hose

    142 supercharger on a stock 5.7 ?

I think that was only one guy, and he lost his display while tuning the motor and ran it flat out anyway iirc

    Happiest Day of Ownership !!!

I've already got new cover, swap lower onto good upper (suspect bad shift spool), *more* freaking wiring (for fun stuff at least--amp. Oh, and oil pressure switch) on the list. Still waaaay better than this year's list. And I haven't given up hope for one more weekend this season.

What does this hose do? As well as other issues.

This issue might be enough to scrap the boat even if the engine was pristine...

    Water when pulling stern drive

I usually use my omnipresent permatex to hold it in place, has anyone heard of a slip/failure using that?

    Time to chuck the 470

    165 MERCRUISER

I got one of these for the speedometer. Other functions work (except for tach, still haven't figured that out) fine, but I disconnected because I prefer the analog gauges. ELING 6-in-1 Multi-Functional Adjustable GPS Speedometer Tachometer Voltmeter Oil Pressure Fuel Level Water Temp Gauge...

    Deleting the voltage regulator 470

No issue, but no benefit either. Don't you have enough to do to keep your 470 running 😀

    Time to chuck the 470

Not true. A change in power in either direction would/might require a different ratio drive or prop. No need to mess with transom plate unless moving to an a1g2 setup.
