    Humming/ Buzzing in dash

Sounds like a shallow water alarm. See if you can reset the low water alarm threshold, or turn it off.

184 MA draw on main battery cable

Some Mercruisers have repressed current systems to protect against galvanic corrosion. These use some small current when boat is moored.

    1150 Link & Sync Question

OK, well for that size boat, that 2.5MGP seems pretty good. The flatter bottom helps with efficiency. Make sure the tilt pin is on the lowest setting. With a tach and a GPS you can maximize the efficiency. I would expect the whale tail to rob you of speed and efficiency, as it adds drag. If...

    Humming/ Buzzing in dash

That is good, but the alarms do not run off the gauges. They run off separate sensors....

Coolant in 3 cylinders after winter storage? Hasn't been started

Well, you either have a cracked block, cracked head, rotted out riser or bad gasket between the manifold and riser. Hopefully the latter. Drain and pull the risers. s/b 4 bolts and a couple of hose clamps each. Inspect the gasket surface and try to see if the orange A-F breached the gasket...

    Humming/ Buzzing in dash

A lot of MerCruisers have a warning horn for overheat and loss of oil pressure. If you turn the ign key on and don't start the motor, after a few seconds, the no oil pressure horn will sound. Is it the same one?

Procedure to test Stator on Mercury

You might disconnect the black/yellow wire at the switchbox. That will remove the ign keyswitch and wiring from the test. If spark returns, troubleshoot the ign keyswitch and wiring.

Coolant in 3 cylinders after winter storage? Hasn't been started

Do you mean MerCruiser Sterndrive or straight inboard motor? On the Mercruiser, did you drain and fill the manifolds and riser with A-F? Presuming the manifolds and risers are not damaged, the gasket between the manifold and riser can leak, causing A-F to run into the engine thru an open valve.

Procedure to test Stator on Mercury

Those are all ohm tests with the engine off, and the rectifier disconnected, and are for motors with ADI ignition. What are you working on? Did you test spark with the black/yellow wire disconnected at the switchbox? That is the first test for ADI motors. If you have battery powered CDI...

    1150 Link & Sync Question

2.5MPG s not bad for a 2 cycle motor of that HP. My '77 Merc 1500 on my 16 foot speedboat burned 6 Gal in 20 min, at full throttle, with a heavily loaded boat @ about 50MPH. What length boat and what prop pitch do you have? Unfortunately porpoising has a lot to do with the design of the hull...

Coolant in 3 cylinders after winter storage? Hasn't been started

Exactly what motor are we discussing? MerCruiser sterndrive, outboard?

    Tach for Merc outboard

It looks to be wired correctly. Maybe the rectifier is bad. Disconnect the stator wires from the rectifier and connect the grey wire to one of the stator wires, and see if it works. If not the stator is either bad or incompatible with the tach. Do not disconnect the battery wire from the...

Bolts/screws boke off, thread/pipe tap -size? Alpha One Gen 2

Pipe thread is usually tapered. You will want a straight tap for those. If your diameter measurement is accurate that would be a #8 screw which is 5/32". Those can have 24 or 32 threads per inch. If your threads measurement is accurate, they are 24 threads per inch. They look to be larger...

    Tach for Merc outboard

Yes, a bad rectifier can cause loss of tach signal. Is the grey wire actually connected to the ac side of the rectifier? That is obviously necessary. Does your engine wiring harness even have a grey wire?

    Tach for Merc outboard

The signal for the tachometer originates in the rectifier or voltage regulator, whichever you have. Pull the cowling off the '96 motor and trace the grey wire. It should connect to something. It does have a charging system, right? Not all 25HP models do, especially non electric start ones...

Alternate controls to replace 1980’s to 1990’s outboard controllers?

Merc throttle cables and shift cables are different, but can be swapped for Johnny type. Biggest issue is that Merc pushes the throttle closed and Johnny pulls the throttle closed. Also, the shift throw may be different. Wiring for the most part, could be adapted.

1974 mercury 2 stroke water pump operation?

That motor is pumping water out of all the right places. However, as Racerone says, the impeller should be changed. Those motors do not have a thermostat, and rely on more water being pumped to cool the motor than is needed. There is not much extra capacity, and if the impeller is worn...

Mercury 500 thunderbolt 70s black and red won’t pee water

Those telltales do clog easily. The important exit for the water is the gratings above the antiventilation plate, and thru the prop. Did water come out those places? You can pull the telltale hose off the cylinder head and see if water exits there as well.

    1990 Evinrude 200XP electrical issues

I would recommend a factory service manual. the marineengine web site should have one. Have your model number handy. It could be something as simple as bad wiring, bad insulation on the ign kill wire or other.

    Uncommanded tilt up

Sometimes water can get into the switches and complete the up circuit. Try some wd-40 to blast it out of the switch.
