1989 Mercury Black Max 150hp outboard Motor Problem

That sounds like a fuel delivery issue. Pump the primer. If that fixes it, rebuild the fuel pump. Clean/replace all fuel filters, clean the antisiphon valve in the fuel line at the fuel tank. Some fuel tanks have a filter on the pickup that can get clogged.

    Stand-alone tilt/trim pump

The control valve bolts thru the plate to the reservoir body. Simply remove those bolts and the control valve, with the hoses attached will come off, exposing the plate and it's 4 orings, 2 on each side of the plate.

Gee, take a compression test. If that has an issue, it must be addressed first.

    Shocks

The early PTT units were a way of installing PTT on motors that were not designed for it. Hence the boat-mounted motor/pump/reservoir and hydraulic hoses. They were overly large, but had one advantage that was engineered out of the newer units. With the older units, you could trim the...

    Shocks

Actually Mark, only the lower shock mounts were used for power trim. A PTT bracket bolted to the upper shock mount, to allow for bolt up of the top of the longer and thicker hydraulic cylinders .

1978 Mercury 800 Controls, Cables, Throttle, Idle

In the first picture, the throttle handle looks to be in reverse. It suggests that the cables are incorrectly adjusted. Remove both cables from the engine. Lower cable is the shift cable. Slide the shift slider toward the center, so motor is in neutral. Spin prop to verify. Set throttle...

    DIY Marine upholstery and covers?

My Grandmother worked in a sweatshop in the 30-40s. She was a sample maker, b/c she was too exacting to work on the line. She captured her machine after she left the factory. It was a belt drive 1942 Singer, single stich. She used her machine as a vocation and was a tailor for rich women...

    What size Prop

Usually a 19 or 21P prop is used. How did the 19 perform? I ran a 21P prop on my 19' Bowrider with a 4.3LX 205HP Alpha drive. It was fine for most stuff. Your boat is likely a bit heavier, but with more power.

    Throttle Control Removal

The black panel around the throttle handle is usually removeable. It will normally have two machine screws under it holding it to the control, and two wood screws holding it to the panel.

    DIY Marine upholstery and covers?

Unfortunately the only way to know if wifey's machine will handle it is to try it. You can get some vinyl samples and give it a go. Use some coat thread, as carpet thread may be too heavy for most machines. You will need to sew 4 layers for marine vinyl, representing the cording and cover...

New to me Lazer II with 3 square PVS vent holes

I doubt plugging one vent or two will make the prop unbalanced. I would seal all holes with silicone caulk and run it. Use a stopwatch to measure performance. Now remove silicone and test again. I ran vented props on my sterndrive with all holes plugged with SS bolts. I did not think the...

    Replacing Thru hull ...size??

Thru hull fittings are usually sized by the ID of the drain hose to be used. In your case 1". They usually have hose barbs. Shields makes a white sanitation hose for your purpose. It is expensive, but rated for underwater use. Double clamp all connections with SS hose clamps. Adhesive...

    Raise boat from trailer

Your bow and stern eyes are not usually rated to hoist the boat. I would check that carefully. A proven way is to drop the trailer tongue to the ground, put cement blocks under the transom at the gunwale, pad them with wood, and then jack up the trailer tongue, until the stern is on the...

    Trim/ tilt help

You can remove the hydraulics, however, the motor would pop up in reverse, and under deceleration. It would therefore be better to leave the trim cylinders on and remove the rest of the system. However, I would recommend you find out why the PTT is not working. The knurled knob on the base...

Mecury 150 XR2 BlackMax Overheating issue

Rebuild the waterpump and install new thermostats. The poppit valve opens under pressure, so if the pressure of the waterpump is at the threshold of poppit opening, the gauge could show up and down water pressure. A new waterpump should solve this.

    Rug glue question

Any indoor-outdoor mastic will work fine. I use the stuff from the home despot. Obviously the latex kind will need dry weather for a while after installation. The oil based mastic will set up in damper weather.

    Trim/ tilt help

The OP does have PTT on that motor. It was an option. The manual shock absorbers are replaced by a bracket and longer/larger hydraulic cylinders, plus 4 hydraulic hoses and a motor/pump/reservoir unit in the boat.

    Trim/ tilt help

So you loosen one of the bleed screws, run the pump and and no oil comes out? If that is the case, perhaps the motor armature is no longer turning the pump. You can loosen on the the lines on the bottom of the pump/reservoir and see if oil shoots out there. If not, either the control valve...

1959 Glastron need to find a starter solenoid

That motor will have a neutral safety switch mounted on the motor. I forget exactly where it is, but look on the shift linkage. You might trace the wire from the primary solenoid winding to the neutral safety switch.

    Steering wheel shaking

When you say inboard, you really mean I/O right? If so, I would suggest the power steering system has an issue. Is the fluid level correct? Does the PS pump turn smoothly when the engine is running?
