    spring vapor lock?

No, distinction is important. If the cylinders were filled with gas, that would indicate that your carb is overflowing and gas is causing the hydrolock. Stuff a rag in them, tape, whatever. Wouldn't bother fogging. Take the lower off though, if the level was that high in the bilge your bellows...

    1997 Mercruiser 5.7l w/ 2 barrel carb & thunderbolt ignition

I feel like there was a "new to you boat checklist" floating around in a sticky somewhere, but I can't find it. If not, it should definitely exist

    spring vapor lock?

Haha, I can write a book on it at this point. Most things need to be done quickly, however I would for sure pull your drive, likely you have water in your bellows and the accompanying mess of that. Also, if youre starter, alternator, trim pump were submerged, there's a good chance of failure...

    spring vapor lock?

Sounds like it was. You still shouldn't have enough fuel in the cylinders to geyser out of the cylinders, no matter how much you pump the throttle. Don't know how much of that was mixed with water versus straight gas.

    spring vapor lock?

Fuel pump should be off with the ignition off always.

    1997 Mercruiser 5.7l w/ 2 barrel carb & thunderbolt ignition

Carb or EFI? What's your starting procedure, and if carb'd are you familiar with how to start a carb engine?

    Engine Cover/Piano Hinge repair

I'd put a long strip of aluminum stock or something so that it extends a few inches on either side of the hinge. Screw the stock to the wood in a virgin section of the cover on each end, and drill/screw the hinges to the stock.

Running Out of Fuel - Half Full

When you pull the pickup tube out of the "empty" tank, is it wet with fuel? If you drop it in the tank, plug the motor end, and pull it out, is there fuel in the tube? Did I miss if you were able to draw out of the tank using primer bulb, or out of jerry can with primer bulb?

Mercruiser 5.7 wanting to stall at idle after driving around

Is it a mechanical or electric pump? If electric, pretty easy to disconnect at the carb and jump the pump; the pressure gauge may already have the correct fitting

    Greasing the gimbal bearing question

My bad, your post said gimbal bearing, but my brain said coupler

Mercruiser 5.7 wanting to stall at idle after driving around

Any fuel dribbling from the venturis at idle? What happens if you open the throttle all the way when trying a hard start?

    Greasing the gimbal bearing question

How could you grease it with the engine running? On a new to you boat, it would be a very good idea to do the drive maintenance prior to this season so you don't run into any problems. Check for water in the bellows, alignment, gimbal bearing and u-joints. Even if you've never done it, shouldn't...

Alpha 1 Gen 1 gear housing seal leak

Got a leak in the water pump base. Ordered part # 46-44292A3; wanted to confirm that the seals are included pre installed in the base. Pretty sure they're already installed in the base, but it isn't clear in the description.

    Ford 302 spark plugs

Any guesses on the cause? I was expecting piston to be smacking a valve... Did you pull the plugs to see if they're intact?

1996 Bayliner 1952CN, won't start after winterization - new boat owner

Well, in the video he drained the block after flushing with a/f... Which seems like a complete waste of a/f, but the block should be empty. Although he didn't clean out the drains either. Also OP, you mentioned keeping key in "acc" position for a few minutes (assuming you mean ignition on)...

    3.7 to 4.3 swap

Because they aren't made for a marine application. Accessories, brackets, exhaust, couplers, ignition, etc etc not available. Merc is making aluminum blocks again for their engines.

Re-upholstery Job on Cruisers Yacht 338 Bowrider

Wow! I'm looking forward to doing "fun" cosmetic and stereo stuff again someday. The mechanical condition of my boat always is directly proportional to how clean it is. BTW, you can substitute "friendly" with any four letter F word of your choice, depending on the competence of the counter help...

Boat swamped, let's see if we can get it running...

So pressure tested the drive, and it was fine. No loss at 10 psi, lower limit of my gauge. Put a couple of pumps of air in (much less than 10 psi) and still had a good hiss coming out the next morning. Rotated prop during both tests. Split the drive, and removed impeller. Unfortunately (?)...
