drive thump thump or chug chug sound

10Hz wouldn't be a thump. 10 Hz is around the frequency of the engine RPM.

Mercruiser 3.0 reliability and overall maintenance?

SeaRay took a major hit after Brunswick bought them. They are almost identical quality now. They were even both made in the same factory in Tennessee. That factory may have closed by now.

Mercruiser 3.0 reliability and overall maintenance?

A lot depends on how the boat is taken care of. Sea rays and Bayliners are not the best built boats in the world so they have to be very well taken care of to last.

    Frozen Brakes

What brand brakes do you have? You may want to lube the guide pins. I do that every few years on my Kodiaks.

drive thump thump or chug chug sound

I have bought a 2017 Cobalt with only 110 hours on it. I just pulled the drive and it's WAY out of alignment. And it's not an inexpensiveley built boat like a Bayliner or Searay.

How does it sound when you have it in gear and have the drive full right or left.? You can also do that out of the water if you are careful .

It is normal maintenance to check alignment annually whether there is work done or not.

drive thump thump or chug chug sound

You are not aligning your drive correctly. This two finger turning of the alignment bar is not how you do it. You push the alignment bar with grease on it and read the grease lines to see if its high or low. The two finger thing is just how much force it is to slide the bar in and out...not...

    Snow Birds: Beware!

We own two homes in the montains. Web accessed thermostats have prevented multiple occurrences of possible freeze damage since we have friends use one of the houses and I vacation rent the other. Also nice to be able to turn up the heat as we drive up the mountain to them. We always turn off...

    Frozen Brakes

If the breakaway cable was pulled, you could slide it backwards. From the picture you can see its all the way forward.

    Frozen Brakes

Does the coupler slide forward and backwards within its channel if you push on it? If it does, it is possible the breakaway cable was pulled. If not, jack up each wheel and see if one or more turn to find the offending caliper

1998 VP 5.0Gi looses power, maybe in protection mode

Its probably a BY or an LK. Either one of those will use the same water pump. More than likely a BY. I don;t think they used the GM engine in LK model. Volvo part number 3857794...

Hydrolock, swim platform, riser height and static water line question

If that's the case, you my possibly want to replace the risers at least. I believe in only buying OEM manifolds/risers. When DonS was still here(RIP) he also only used OEM.

Hydrolock, swim platform, riser height and static water line question

Your manifolds and risers look fine. I assume this a freashwater only boat? I would not bother with a flapper at all. My boat sits just as deep as yours in the back and I have had very large waves hit the stern and never had the same problem as you are having.

    Old air compressor?

My friend, who is an ME, does product liability investigations. He represents the manufacturers. One of his cases was doing expert testimony on a Sears air compressor. The tank that exploded was due to rust damage from the owner who never drained his tank. The tank will explode long before a...

    Old air compressor?

I have an auto drain on my compressor. You hear stories of people who never drain their compressor tanks. They are the ones that have problems with their tanks.

Which Grease/Sealant between Outdrive and Bellows?

You can use pretty much any kind of grease. The grease itself isn't acting as a seal. It just allows the cone of the drive to slide inside the rubber of the bellows easily.
