    1977 Starcraft Restoration project

In my 16' Kingfisher I used 4.5 sheets of the .75 inch pink stuff. It was the only size available to me at the time. And my method uses a lot more but that extra becomes additional flotation if needed. Ya know? ;)

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Getting the motor inside the building was a good first step. Next was to rig up some temporary casters so I can move the thing around. Done! Yeahhh... that looks to be around the right sized motor to me! But my wife and the boy are already terrified.

    Some good stuff happening

Got more cleanup and organizing done today. We even have a couple empty drawers leftover. Definitely need more tools! And I used some leftover 1" aluminum angle stock to fabricate some drawer dividers. Will be riveting those into various drawers but have to buy some new drill bits...

    Some good stuff happening

BTW - I did try the "ketchup trick" to remove rust from the top of the big red box. Sadly, I have to say that I am unimpressed with the results. Left it on for almost 2 full days and it didn't seem to make much difference. Smelled up the garage though!

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Time for an update. I got nothing!  Well, very little. But things are picking up. Last week I had multiple doc appointments (more coming this week too) and was running the roads. But the delay was mostly due to researching parts for the Mercury 50 and trying to figure out...

    Some good stuff happening

Okay, I finally made some progress here in the garage. Got that Task Force rolling cabinet fixed! :) The boy really helped a lot too. ;) This is the cabinet. Note that the drawers are askew. Several were jammed up and couldn't move. I suspect that my old buddy who gave me the cabinets...

    1976 Starcraft Chieftain 18' OB - restomod

Dagnabit! A guy on craigslist has this pair of 19 gallon tanks for sale and I'd love to put them in the Chief! But I just went out and measured and can't figure a way to mount them without taking up too much real estate in the boat. The tanks measure 9" x 10" x 50" and I was hoping to put...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Made a little progress this morning! :) With the right tool for the job, things get done. My new circlip pliers arrived yesterday and I put them to work this morning. Got that stubborn retaining clip off the steering wheel shaft in very short order. Then things got interesting. :rolleyes...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

No boat work today. Been dealing with computer stuff again. Took one back for a refund, went to a different store and bought another, then returned that one as well. Stopped at a computer repair place on the way back and talked with the tech there who recommended that I bring the Dell in for...

    1976 Starcraft Chieftain 18' OB - restomod

So while sitting in the garage contemplating boat stuff this evening I noticed the 6-spoke steering wheel that I bought for the Chieftain. And remembered that a couple days ago that I popped off and saved the Starcraft logo that was on the Kingfisher. I'd originally thought that I would clean...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

I felt great today! Not just "okay" or "tolerable" but actually healthy and energetic! :D Spent hours in the garage working on the KF and also had the boy do some design computation stuff for the Chieftain! :becky: Made good progress from my point of view. The KF is now stripped and ready...

    Some good stuff happening

First concrete crack found today, near the rear door of the garage. It's tiny, but it's there. :grumpy:

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Busy today but I did get the new custom strap installed on the trailer winch. It's 6 feet shorter and fits much better. :) Not related to boat stuff but I did get my truck washed today too. First time in months! Man, it really needed it.

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

No boat work to report, guys. I was busy with other stuff yesterday and today I've been having medical issues. As in "that boy ain't right" stuff. :dispirited: Can't tell if it's because of symptoms or medicine side effects. Either way, it's been unpleasant. But I continue to read iboats and...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Today's progress. I heard WM's message loud and clear. Pull up those gunwales and it'll be like opening a big ol' can of worms! :biggrin-new: So I took the easy way out... And just cut the tabs at the ends! Okay, so I was kidding a little about that can o' worms. I did...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Got a little more done today, mostly in the afternoon. Found my angle grinder and last cutoff wheel this morning. Sooo... after I went to HF this afternoon and bought some more cutoff wheels and a chisel set, I came home and used the tools to finesse the old bolts off the...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Got a little more done today. Removed the seats and storage unit because once the 50 is mounted, I'll be rearranging everything anyway. The console and old steering needs to come out but that's going to have to wait until I have some help. Where the console bolts underneath to the gunwale is...
