    Vintage Mercury Cooling Issue

Thank you! (y) It is similar to blowing a head gasket on a 4-stroke engine, where the exhaust gases are pressurizing the cooling system. I wish that I had thought of it sooner, but usually with cooling issue the focus is on the impeller. I was getting close to throwing in the towel on this...

OMG - I got an oversized load permit !!!

@harringtondav . . . here are a few pictures of how the boat was sitting on the trailer from the retrieval last Fall. A few inches off center . . . . . Port side missed the strake . . . . . Starboard side barely on . . . . . As you can see the chines are just over the outside edges of the...

    Vintage Mercury Cooling Issue

Greetings, I've been trying to figure out a cooling/overheat issue with my 1969 Merc 7.5 HP. When I was prepping the engine at the beginning of the season, it was not peeing properly despite a brand new water pump. I set it aside and grabbed the next in line for the dinghy (Yammy 3 HP)...

OMG - I got an oversized load permit !!!

Pretty typical bunk arrangement for larger trailers. 2 main bunks and then a set of bow-catcher bunks. As far as the chines hitting the bunks. . . Not even close - the bunks were set at the factory to line up with the outer strakes. The chine width is about 9' 8", so outside of the frame, and...

    Finishing before gelcoat

Looks like a blurry picture to me . . . But, if water from the inside of the boat is showing up as drips on the outside, that would be a hole  (or crack, etc)

OMG - I got an oversized load permit !!!

The boat is coming out Tuesday AM . . . I just bought a Rohent back-up camera system (wired power and wireless link). It works off the 12 volt outlet(s) and is supposed to have a range of over 200 ft. (camera to display distance) I should be able to put the camera either on the truck roof...

Fix gel coat or use keel guard

If I were me, I'd fix the gelcoat AND place a keel guard there.

2001 Searay 210SD- Rear spay hose assy replacement

Greetings . . . Based on what little info the 201 210 SD manual has, it looks like the fitting for the transom shower may be tucked way up in the swim platform cavity near the rub rail. Follow the plumbing that leads from the water pressure pump to where the fitting is located.

    Performance issue

Well, to start the boat is under powered. You probably would have noticed that on the sea trial. I'm not sure why manufacturers under power their boats (at the base model), but they do. - Saves a few $$$ on the selling price, I suppose. The dry weight of the boat is spec'd at 6,000 lbs. and...

91 Four Winns 285 express winterizing question

Not the best approach, since the AF will probably come out the exhaust long before the concentration of AF in the engine block has reached a sufficient level. (it is not a sequential flow through the engine) If you do run AF, then drain the block, recirc. pump and exhaust manifolds afterwards.

    Compression Test Readings

Generally 060 over is the second rebuild. Maybe this engine is ready to 'retire'

    Compression Test Readings

OK . . . a hydrolock can stretch the head bolts, which may act like a blown head gasket.

    Compression Test Readings

Were any of the head bolts loose (not fully torqued) when you removed them?

    Boat accident at dusk

Did the other boat operator (or passengers) go on record with law enforcement at any point regarding lights, visibility, etc.? Did law enforcement find fault, issue citations, etc? Not sure you covered that previously. Sorry to here that it is such a hassle. Your insurance might cover what...

    Mercruiser 6.2L Coolant Loss

How did you get so hung over? Bad ice in the drinks? You can probably just look around the front of the engine for a broken or loose hose. If that fails, then do the heat exchanger fill. The water will probably be noticeable even without running the engines. Make sure not to leave...

    Compression Test Readings

Wow . . . I'd run just the compression test again. Never mind the cylinder leak testing at this point. If the results hold true, you've got . . . 2 'good' cylinders 3 dead cylinders 3 marginal cylinders Does the engine actually run?

    Mercruiser 6.2L Coolant Loss

Those engines look very familiar to me. (I have their 350 HP cousins ) Anyway. Assuming that you have VesselView (?) Were you getting an overheat warning/alarm? If you think the impeller failed, were you seeing the proper amount of pressure for the raw water side? Did the coolant blow at...

OMG - I got an oversized load permit !!!

Yes, I get to use the Wide Load banner that I bought last year. :ROFLMAO: I have towed a short distance w/out a permit (but don't tell anybody  ) . I don't think the LEO's really care all that much, but just in case.

    Structural integrity and boating safety.

I guess it would have to be pretty obvious and blatant signs of structural issue to see that from the antics at the launch ramp. The spectator's area and cheering section is about 150' from the actual ramp. I'd expect the boat owner in question not to be receptive to any comment or concern...
