OMG - I got an oversized load permit !!!

I'm planning to take the boat out in about a week's time. So, I thought I might try to get an oversized permit (10'-10" wide load), as I go on a state road for part of the route. The MA DOT makes things a bit challenging, but I figured it out and applied for a 'single trip' permit on their...

I think I will go electric for my next new car ...

Well you know that these electric vehicles are the mother of invention. What will be 'invented' ? - Better and more eco-friendly batteries - More renewable energy supplies - Faster re-charging - More efficient motors - etc. . . . I'm not sure I'd want an electric car/truck just yet, mostly...

Merc 350 mag mpi HELP! 200°

Keep in mind that the exhaust manifolds are going to be getting the 160˚F water from the engine as their cooling water. So, probably 185-200˚F is not bad. The riser/elbow gets cool water directly (which then mixes with the water from the manifolds. The top of the riser/elbows should be in...

    Throttle position sensor

Based on your 'testing', I'd be starting with the TPS and work from there. Do you have the computer diagnostics to check the engine out? or access to one?

    Exhaust Bellow

That's a new one (to me) . . . I have not seen a bellows like that, but exhaust bellows don't have to be water tight, since they are under water anyway and fill up when the boat is at rest. @Brody133 . . . do you have the prior/original bellows for comparison?

    Reputable engine source?

Yes, probably . . . Michican Motorz is sales and distribution, as are many places that sell a variety of products. Jegs, Summit Racing, etc. . . MM may have a standing relationship with an engine builder. Their marketing info implies that they build them, but not explicitly. Any markings on...

4300-RRR - That part# has roller cam & lifters specified Is that a typo in your post? (of course I don't see an item 4300-RR on the MM website)

    initial boat inspection how to's

One thing to keep in mind is that the engine is 21 years old, raw water cooled, and has been run in salt water. The exhaust manifolds and risers can be (and usually are) replaced on a 5-7 year interval in salt water, but the engine block is not easily replaced. You will certainly get more...

    Signs of bad pour foam

I don't really get carried away with mixing tools for pour-in foam, You only get about 20 seconds to mix it  , so even a paint stir stick will do. Also, it is best to mix in small batches according to how much you can pour in about 30 seconds.

Here is a buyer's checklist. https://forums.iboats.com/threads/for-new-members-needing-help-buying-a-boat-a-buyers-checklist.612841/ SAMS and NAMS are 2 marine surveyor accreditation organizations that have directories, so you can find a surveyor in your area. I also recommend Googling the...

WOT RPM too high. Where is the slip?

Things to check/verify . . . Tachometer giving correct RPM reading (does the engine really sound like it is revving to 5K ?) Outdrive trim - is the trim reading (sender/gauge) off/inaccurate? Bravo 3 prop blades bent, dinged, etc ? (and yes - no hubs on a Bravo 3) Clutch? 🤪

    Cracked block leaking water

Looks like the JB-Weld fairy has already been there fixing the cracked block. With obvious patches visible and signs of water seepage from the lower part of the engine block, why would you think the block is not cracked ?

Dual johnson 6hp outboard on boat

In theory . . . Change in speed is not a linear relationship to change in power. Power = Force x Velocity Doubling the power may get about a 30% increase in speed. If the boat has a fairly flat bottom towards the stern, it may help.

Volvo Penta won’t run at full power

Welcome to iBoats. . . Short answer is yes. The first thing to check is the venting of the fuel tank, as it may be clogged. See if the problem goes away if you loosen the fuel fill cap slightly so air can get in. If so, then check the vent line to the tank for clogs, kinks, other obstructions.

Risers and manifolds at the same time?

My Formula 330 had the SS risers (elbows) and the iron manifolds, with closed cooling. So the coolant ran through the manifolds and the sea water ran out the SS risers . . . worked great and lasts forever (ie a long time)
