    Both are good motors and for the boats that you will likely be considering, the engine itself are both sourced from GM. All the 'dressing' around them are specific to each manufacturer (Merc, V-P) For the boat that I just bought, I could have gotten a Volvo-Penta or a Merc . . . but my comfort...

    I probably won't take social security for a few more years, as the monthly amount that I can get will max out then. The Admiral is still working and will do so for those few more years. I have a honey do list a mile long and the new boat is keeping me plenty busy.

    Thanks, I hope all goes well with your plans. I would like to do some boat upholstery, since it is a skill that I've discovered, and I don't have to make a ton of money. It would be nice to have about 3 days per week of work and most of the summers off.

    Welcome to iBoats . . . It's Four Winns. And the throttle/shift controls would be per the engine, not the boat. I assume it probably has an OMC or Volvo-Penta engine?

    This Diacom stuff has gotten pretty expensive . . . but . . . it still pays for itself with the first diagnosis and repair vs. sending the boat to the local marine mechanic. :cool:

    Me too !!! :LOL: It should, since I'll know more of what is going on behind the curtain. . . so-to-speak. $330 for the cables is probably small $$$ in the long run, considering the amount of things that can go wrong with these engines. I'm waiting on a 'USB Configuration File' from Rinda...

    I'm going to upgrade my Diacom software today and see about getting the right cables. I won't be back at the boat until next week, so hopefully I'll have what I need to take the diagnostics to the next level. These VesselView warnings are about as useful as a Check Engine Light :rolleyes:

    Greetings and welcome to iBoats . . . If you have not found a link by Google searching, then the manual probably does not exist. Many boats of 20+ years ago did not come with much documentation, mostly safety and navigation stuff as the others have mentioned.
