Hello all, I want to install a remote oil filter mount for my 4.3 V6, is it neccessary to replace the filter mount bypass valve?

Ok getting tired of pulling the rear seats out to do the oil change on my old boat. I found that Michigan Motorz puts together an oil filter kit that works with the Volvo style manifolds I have on my 4.3. I asked them if it is necessary to change the oil filter bypass valve with a higher rated...

    Sea Ray engine replacement

Fel Pro sells a kit for the pre-vortec engines that includes the head gaskets, intake gaskets and distributor gasket. For the Vortec I don't think they actually have a kit, but the HGs I believe are the same, the intake gaskets are different.

Can you change from welded to bolted?

That or find a similar size used trailer in better shape. The way the original welds were done looks questionable to me; all that weight is concentrated in a small area. The great majority of galvanized trailers are box section not C channel and I think box section is naturally more rigid.

Can you change from welded to bolted?

Here you can see the brackets that Load Rite uses on their box section galvanized trailers. This one is a '94 and the steel is in great shape, but my boat lives on a mooring so it has only gone in salt about 2-4 times per year over the 20 years I've owned it.

This is the type of bracket they used with boxed frames

Ah saw that it was rebuilt; so the shop must have boiled out the block & heads

    Overheating at 30mph

Might want to flush the block you never know what you’ll find with raw water cooled engines used in salt water. When I replaced the heads a few years ago I could see the block cooling passages were rusty with surface rust but not clogged .

Can you change from welded to bolted?

The problem with doing that is finding a bolt on crossmember bracket that matches up to the frame that you have (C channel), not saying it can’t be done. I bought some new brackets for my Load Rite so that I could lower the crossmembers to get the boat lower on the roller trailer.

    Overheating at 30mph

Remember if you had rusted up exhaust components unless you flow tested them off the engine with a hose and verified that they flow the same; you should have replaced both manifolds. If the one you didn’t replace is partly clogged most of the water will go out the other side and the clogged side...

    Ford 302 pinging

What octane fuel are you using? While some manufacturers say 87 is ok, I have never run less that 89 in my 4.3 4bbl, and at our gas docks all they sell is 93. Pinging & detonation are things to be avoided at all costs in marine inboards. OMC put a sticker in the flame arrestor stating that 89...

    ? About water in oil

Surprising for fresh water use! Sure it was never in salt? Here in salt water that's always a concern, when I removed my cyl heads 5 years ago they didn't look that bad in terms of corrosion neither did the internal passages of the block, but because the heads were cracked and the cooling...

    At a loss

that's what I say! Simple points distributors and carbs have few points of failure, modern EFI/electronic engine management, has many! My friends laugh and poke fun at my and my old boat, but they don't get this. I don't need mechanics, or even a scanner, for this one!

    Grease on rims

Just replace those rubber plugs, sometimes that happens to them, I haven't had that problem in 15+ years of using the same style hub but it can happen, keep spares of those caps on hand.

Poly or epoxy, not sure what to go with?

However, with epoxy keep in mind some people can develop a sensitivity to it, make sure to always wear personal protection equipment. That can be like an allergic reaction where the person would get hives any time they were exposed to it. I used it numerous times, never had that happen but was...

Poly or epoxy, not sure what to go with?

I’ve used West System Epoxy for small repairs it really has no odor to speak of and various hardeners to allow you to work in different temps. Expensive but good. Good tech support too for new users.

    Oil level too high?

My OMC 4.3 uses that exact same dipstick tube to the banjo bolt on the pan as VP used and it never takes as much to read full as the manual lists for the oil capacity. Another oddity I noticed, the oil level on the dipstick is affected by temperature. If it’s right at full when you have the...

    Boat Cover Ribs/Braces

I forgot how much I paid for the fiberglass bows but they basically last forever. I guess seeing as how it was 15 years ago, probably 3x what I paid, lol! I like to buy good quality and once, if possible. The Taylor Made custom cover is also 15 years old, still looks good.
