    Ayuh,..... That smoke is tellin' you that, that terminal connection is corroded,.... Corrosion equals resistance, equals heat,..... I suggest ya clean to shiny metal clean, both ends of both battery cables,....

    Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,..... That's certainly odd, as the neutral safety switch is in the starter crankin' circuit, 'n has nothin' to do with the ignition circuit,.....

    Ayuh,..... The 2 most important are the 2 block drains, one each side, down just above the oil pan, 'bout mid-way,.... There's a winterization thread in Don's Adults Only Section, found at the top of the I/O forums, or in my signature,...... ;)

    Ayuh,...... Welcome Aboard,....... That's a 470, I-4, the gear ratio will be just fine,.... You will need a Y-pipe, 'n related exhaust parts,.... You'll probably have to widen the doghouse, 'n you'll need to build motor mounts to hold the V-motor,..... There'll also be some plumbin'...

    Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,...... You had the distributor way outa time,..... Now, with the hold down bolt barely snug,.... Turn the distributor body to get the timing closer, so it'll start, then set the timin' proper,....

    Ayuh,.... The balance shaft is only in the mid-late model 4.3l motors,.... Detonation sounds likely,...... Dump the fuel filter's contents into a clear jar, 'n check for anything but clean fresh gasoline,.....

    Nope,..... It goes to the in-comin' water port on the T-stat housin', where it's available to both the circulatin' waterpump, 'n the exhaust manifolds,...... A 5 year old impeller is junk,......

    Ayuh,..... 'bout 20 bucks will buy a package of brand new brass core plugs,.... No swappin', they usually get bent up takin' 'em out anyways,.... The truck motor will work just fine for yer conversion, If yer willin' to do a few updates, 'n you'll have a better motor for yer efforts...

    Ayuh,.... Starters don't like to go swimmin', 'n fail shortly after they do,..... For the replacement, go with a permanent magnet starter,.... 1/2 the weight, 'n twice the power,....

    Ayuh,..... If you jumper to the bottom stud on the starter's solenoid, the starter should spin, but the bendix will Not engage the motor,.....

    Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,...... If the ground is as corroded as the positive, that could explain the voltage drop,...... Either dig deeper, 'n clean it, or jumper it to by-pass it for testin',.....
