Replace 1987 Bayliner 2150CF 5.0 liter OMC with a Mercuiser 350 alpha Gen II complete sterndrive

If its a 1987 Bayliner with an OMC Cobra that it totally not needed! The OMC Cobra used the exact same cut out in the transom as the Merc Alpha. That adapter was for the older Volvo drives, prior to the SX models. Now if your Bayliner had an OMC Stringer drive then yes transom work is needed.

Question about re-filling an Alpha with the drive lube monitor....

OK was doing a drive lube change on an Alpha with the drive lube monitor, I filled it till it came out the upper vent hole, (took approx 40 oz) then went up to the engine and refilled the drive monitor. Later I realized you are supposed to fill till it comes out the vent, replace the vent plug...

    Running non ethanal during layup

Agreed take off your fuel separator and dump it out in a Mason jar and let it sit. See what shows up in the bottom of the jar.... Here's what mine looks like, 100% E10 for 15+ seasons.... I've been getting approx 6 years between rebuilds, I might up-grade to the Racor filter, to see if that...

Alpha One Gen 2 Outdrive not going back on

Great Vid Chris my brother just bought a 2020 Chapparal with the Mercruiser 4.5 Alpha so I guess I’ll be doing this with him sooner than later. Only thing I’ll add is if you’re older have a weak lower back get a drive jack! It and the alignment tool are the best money I have spent on I/O...

Oil sheen in water after start up

I did have a similar issue with trim lines leaking because of cuts by barnacles but it wasn’t nearly that much oil in the water.

    Random knock over 4k RPMs...

I don’t think a “random knock” is really reflective of detonation that would be more repeated knocking at certain loads. I think you’ve got something else going on there. I’ve been using E10 gas stabilized for at least 15 years and have not had knocking it pinging problems using either 89 or 93...

Finally Got Out on the Water!!

Glad you got it out on the water! For the anti siphon keep spraying it with Kroil, Freeze Off or even the home grown mix of 50% Auto Trans fluid and 50% Acetone. It may take considerable time to work. Time & Patience

Alpha One Gen 2 Outdrive not going back on

OK here's a trick I used on my OMC Cobra, not sure if it will work on the Alpha but worth a try, they are similar enough... get the gimble bearing lined up with the tool get the drive at the right height relative to the transom mount (I use a drive jack, makes this job 100% easier on your back)...

    I/O Characteristics

A boat that old is going to have a bunch of problems, the Merc stuff won't be the worst of it, but even Merc discontinues parts, there are going to be a number of NLA parts for the engine accessories and the drive and transom mount. I would not do it just for those reasons. As far as trimming...

Just bought this Snowblower ,Good, bad ??

I've got something even simpler. Toro single stage, just a simple belt. I love these little machines for their light weight and minimal maintenance. This one has a 5 hp Suzuki 2 stroke.

Oil sheen in water after start up

The SX-M drives that the OP has, have the trim pumps inside like the Merc drives and OMC Cobra. The first couple of years of the SX-A drives they did have trouble with the external trim pump

Oil sheen in water after start up

A leak like that would get you cited by the Coast Guard here! Check all fluids and see what's low, could be power steering (cooler) or internal oil leaks in one of the engines (you'd probably see milky motor oil then). Do the engines have engine oil coolers? You say that the oil seems to be...

    Wheel bearings full of water

Just like some have never had a problem with bearing buddies I never had a problem with the Super Lube/Sure Lube/Spindle Lube. My first axle with that system was made by Champion trailers, in 16 years of salt water use, I never had water in them, never had to change the bearings, just changed...
