Help with interpreting AFR gauge readings

Holley.com has support forums, try posting up there, I think for sure someone will know. It sounds like you're having trouble in the transition when the secondaries just start to open. Which power valve does this carb have? There's a procedure to determine what valve you should be using that is...

Isn't your alt on the port side, below the P/S pump? you were asking about starboard side drain...

how about if you remove the manifold on that side? some people have to do that to get at the starter if in fresh water the bolts should come out ok

    Winterizing time

starboard side drain is betweeen the starter and the engine mount. Here's the one on my old 1988, OMC used a 90* connector to clear the older style large direct drive starter....

Help find part number of OMC engine

#76 is the driveshaft bellows, this is supposed to be water tight, no water inside. #31 is the exhaust bellows this normally has water in it.

Help find part number of OMC engine

it's ALWAYS more work than we thought! Leaky exhaust on an inboard engine with water cooled manifolds is the #1 killer of engines.

Help find part number of OMC engine

That looks like it needs to be taken apart and inspected. If its all rusted up and patched you need to replace it. The gaskets for between the manifold and elbows are still available from BRP, or in the aftermarket (Barr Marine is a good brand). When you take the manifold off the engine you'll...

    SX-M bellows housing seals?

Something like Evinrude triple guard grease works well; it’s a thick water proof grease that works well in this application.

    OMC Cobra Information

That # you can look up on Holley.com the carb looks like a marine unit, it has the J tube, the throttle lever does have the bracket used by VP, so that's good, that spring, not needed, just make sure that the end where the cable is anchored to the intake is not boogered up too much so the cable...

Elbow and exhaust manifold inspection what do you think?

yep when I took my heads off 4 years ago the original rubber gaskets were still fine. Saved em in my pile of spare parts. Much better than the old style cork gaskets and perimeter bolts on small block Chevrolets, they ALWAYS leaked!

Elbow and exhaust manifold inspection what do you think?

I didn't paint the sealing surfaces (just the rest of the elbows & manifolds) but some do. thanks for the tip Chris I'll remember that!

You're welcome! The Four Winns Horizons are nice boats, we have an old H-200 and while it needed a lot of repairs due to prior neglect its in good shape now and still runs well with the original Cobra drive and 4.3 V6. I did replace the cyl heads 4 years ago due to the originals being cracked...

Elbow and exhaust manifold inspection what do you think?

I use a razor scraper (carefully) on cast iron.

Elbow and exhaust manifold inspection what do you think?

Yes you must remove all the old gasket material on the manifolds elbows and cylinder heads. After install I like to run the engine up to temp let it cool then retorque with my clicker torque wrench.

https://www.holley.com/products/fuel_systems/carburetors/marine_carburetors/parts/0-80402-1 see the curved tube above the choke plate? Yours should look like that. Now I think VP used an adapter to use the 2bbl carb on the standard 4bbl intake. If that's how yours is and that's not a marine...

    OMC Cobra Information

Ok what I saw that I don't like was that someone cobbled up the throttle bracket/cable and connection to the carb. What they did was used the later style bracket (to hold throttle cable retainer) that is for the Vortec intakes where the bolts go straight up and down with the old style intake...

Help find part number of OMC engine

The gasket between the pivot housing and the outdrive is the same for all dog clutch Cobra drives as is the gimble bearing. The exhaust gasket do you mean between the cyl head and the engine, or between the manifold and the exhaust elbow? You have the log style manifolds so that's how to...

    OMC Cobra Information

PS looking closely, I think this engine has been replaced because by '98 it should have been a Vortec engine with updated cyl heads, but I see the old style 12 bolt intake vs the 8 bolt Vortec one. Not that it matters much, but the Vortec puts out about 25 more HP. As long as it has good...

Elbow and exhaust manifold inspection what do you think?

Yep they look good, just clean up the sealing surfaces, I like to give mine a brush on coat of Rustoleum paint, because it holds up well in the salt air where my boat lives. I took off my 4 year old Barr manifolds to replace the steering actuator behind the engine and they looked great...

Fluid Changes for Winterizing, Do I Need to?

If you really put just a few hrs on it you can remove the drain and see what comes out. If its pure gear oil then its probably fine to keep running it but any sign of moisture its worth the $20 to replace 2 qts of gear lube.
