Volvo Penta 3.0 GLP-D (PCV valve popping off while running - carbon buildup on boat thru exhaust)

Is the other end of that hose connected to the intake manifold? Or a vacuum port below the level of the throttle plate on the carb? Should be either of those for it to work as a PCV valve…they need manifold vacuum to work If that valve is gunked up with sludge inside it may not be working...

Volvo Penta Sx-M 1.97 Gimbal bearing + Transom Seal

There is no such thing that will work. You can try to get it aluminum welded but I’d replace it. BTW I have a 1988 OMC Cobra used in salt water (moored there each year) and that area is still fine. I was able to buy a very good condition complete Cobra transom assembly for about $450 for spare...

    Mercruiser 5.7 anti-siphon valve

If the fuel pump/filter connection is lower than the top of the tank you do because then if the hose from the tank to the filter leaks fuel can siphon into the bilge creating a safety hazard. I would keep it.

https://www.crowleymarine.com/johnson-evinrude/parts/56313.cfm?mdl=ITALGD parts 83, 80, & 79 I never updated mine just keep packing it with triple guard grease, and coated that gasket on both sides with OMC gasket sealer. Lost power

Syn oil is not really needed, I use the standard Merc 25/40 marine oil. Many use the 15w/40 certified for diesel and gas engines. If you wind up having to change to a carb, you will have to source (used) a cast iron intake for a Ford 302 (5 liter), and Holley does still sell brand new carbs...

    Overheat Mystery

Yep make sure the impeller is pumping and remember that these open systems need a lot of cool water in and hot water out; anything that impedes the in or out will cause overheating. You can have leaks on the intake side (water tube gaskets; plastic transom hose nipple) or blockage on the exhaust...

    Time for a ‘new’ boat?

PPS About I/O vs O/B went for a ride in the nearly new Chaparral my brother bought. Mercs new 4.5 V6 with 200 hp. I have to say compared to the old engines it is very nice! Accessibility is not good but for him it’s a non issue he will take it in for maintenance & repairs. So I take back some of...

    Time for a ‘new’ boat?

I think any trailer-able boat will sell faster with a trailer. For us we are limited with storage so can really only have boats in the 20’ range anyway.

5.7 EFI running hotter on starboard exhaust

What your stat seems to be doing is sticking open (120*) then not opening fast enough or far enough (180* is too hot). Get a new stat test it in a pot of water and install a new circulating pump.

    Lost power

Could be that, could also be the anti siphon valve on the gas tank, pick up tube or tank vent. You could try to run it (careful with hooking it up) on a portable tank to rule that out.

replacing water intake hose and found this:

Just be careful to check that clamp at the start of each season. I had that hose pop off on my Cobra and it overheated the engine and filled the bilge with sea water. Not a fun day and the engine ran fine 2 more seasons and blew the Head gaskets at the end of ‘16. Did a top end overhaul in ‘17...

    Water in Oil

Yep that’s a shame but these problems have to be rectified fast. I was able to do that with my old 4.3. Got the water out fast drained water and changed oil numerous times pickled the engine and installed reman heads a few months later.

Overheated, need help identifying pink liquid-

Yep might have melted a ps line or power trim line if equipped. Things to replace: Any rubber hoses aft of the exhaust elbows and any rubber hoses, cables or wiring in close proximity to the exhaust system. Exhaust flappers if so equipped.

OMC cobra trim only going down not up

Exhaust bellows not critical at all but the one above is critical. You need to make sure each relay has power, ground and is getting the up or down signal. The problem can be in the connections at the relay or at the remote control switch/wiring Concentrate on the blue wire that is the up signal...
