What´s the best replacement for AQ271C (or 570) 5.7 GM engine, ideally stroker?

No the vortec engines use the same exhaust, your old exhaust is what allowed water in the engine, corrosion around the sealing surfaces are the usual cause but the parts themselves can rust through and allow water right in a cylinder. In the USA there are a number of vendors for closed cooling...

    351 ford seaswirl cordova

True true you would wind up having to go back to a Holley carb then, not the worst thing though, parts for those are everywhere....if it has a points distributor and Holley carb you are in good shape, the parts are available for those.. I've been buying up OMC spare parts from freshwater mid...

What´s the best replacement for AQ271C (or 570) 5.7 GM engine, ideally stroker?

With what you want to do, I'd install a new 5.7 Vortec long block, and add closed cooling. The stroker idea is great for power but it adds significantly to cost if you are going to buy it all done. For the same $$ you can get the Vortec + a half closed cooling system and new exhaust which you...

And, if that turns out to be true and you're considering buying it, pay attention to these points: does it shift easily into gear? if you get grinding even when you shift it properly (briskly not slowly) that suggests a stiff dragging shift cable or mis adjustment does it stay in gear or clunk...

    351 ford seaswirl cordova

I see Seaswirl and Ford 351 in the same boat and I’m thinking OMC Cobra system because OMC owned Seaswirl and used 351s (5.8 liter) with the Cobra drive. Keep in mind the parts availability and service concerns with the Cobra system. I’ve had one for 18 years and had great luck with it but would...

Lucky that you noticed that! So you have an older pre Vortec engine which is a bit less powerful that the Vortec design and takes the short reach plugs.

You can disconnect the feed hoses at the front of the manifolds; sometimes there’s a rubber cap on the rear of the manifold or a metal drain plug on the bottom end...

Mercruiser 5.0 TKS vs 4.3 MPI

yep they started converting over from carbs in the mid 90s, by '98 it was pretty widespread, first it was throttle body injection then they moved to full port injection just like vehicles did approx 10 years before that.

Yes that is correct, remember you always properly drain to prevent freeze damage. Antifreeze is really just to reduce corrosion. And where you are, corrosion is probably a non-issue. Here we have to replace exhaust systems every 5-7 years. I bet you hardly ever if ever have to do that from what...

Mercruiser 5.0 TKS vs 4.3 MPI

I miss relatively those simple fun rear wheel drive cars. I find the universal adoption of front drive numbingly boring. A couple generations of people don't know anything other than terminal understeer. Those rear drive cars rewarded skilled drivers. Any vehicle I buy for myself must be either...

Mercruiser 470, 2 to 4 barrel carb conversion.

Yep somehow I had another account 18 years ago when I registered and it must have still been active! As long as my original short block is OK with the reman heads I put on 3 years ago I'll keep running this one, but when its time since it looks like I'm keeping this boat for the near future, I'm...

    Lead Paint in 1976

Good plan ....lead poisoning is nothing to fool around with especially if you have young children. It’s a well known neurotoxin to the developing brain & nervous system.

Actually Scott I think the Omni/Horizon was more related to Chrysler of Europe’s Simca Horizon with different suspension and VW based engine. Look it up on www.allpar.com. I recall the Opel GT being sold as a mini Corvette and yes the Chevette was based on an Opel design that was also built in...

Mercruiser 470, 2 to 4 barrel carb conversion.

That’s exactly why I would add closed cooling to any engine that I install to replace my original when the time comes. Ease of rewinterizing you can actually use the winterizing tank instead of pulling out seats bending and stretching etc. Closed cooling + remote oil filter are must haves if I...

    Lead Paint in 1976

they make lead paint test kits, a lot of people use them when redoing old houses, I might want to test it to make sure. You do not want to make lead dust, it is toxic to the nervous system.

Mercruiser 5.0 TKS vs 4.3 MPI

Yes we got the Mk1 and Mk2 Capris, and the story I read in one of the car magazines at the time was that Ford engineers were frustrated by the fact that we could have made our Mustang as good, but marketing made them put the money into size, rather than better design. The Capri itself was mostly...

There’s the 2 block drains the 2 manifold drains and you need to disconnect the lower end of the big hose that connects the thermostat housing with the bottom of the circulation pump. Also, most OMC/Volvo engines have a power steering cooler on the rear of the engine. These have a drain plug but...

Aq271c fuel feed pipe to Holley 4106 4bbl

The main thing is to make sure the jetting is correct so that it’s not running lean which can cause engine damage over time. A 600 cfm carb is more than adequate for a 5.0 V8. Check spark plug center electrode insulator color to judge.
