    Bellows Adhesive application

I use Evinrude gasket sealer ... it works well not too slippery and never hardens up. The Cobra has a groove in the gimble housing flange and a ridge on the bellows flange you have to line up....does the Alpha?

Outdrive Remove in storage or not?

Well outside of winterizing removing the drive is part of the drive service; you do this to check the driveshaft bellows for water and check & lubricate the gimble bearing & u joints. The splines of the input shaft get a coating of OMC triple guard grease and you should also check engine...

1988 GM OMC 5L points gap???

the easiest way to do it is to hook up a dwell meter and a remote starter switch, crank the engine over while watching the meter, set it at the lower end of the dwell range because this equates to a slightly larger point gap; they will stay in spec longer.

yep because cast iron always rusts. Anti seize works on things that don't get wet but sometimes it can cause galvanic corrosion depending on the metals in contact and what's in the anti seize. For aluminum you don't want a copper based anti seize.....The gasket sealer works great, a test: I have...

    470 Distributor Mechanical Advance

I have looked around and see parts breakdowns for that distributor, but no listing for the fly weights and springs....odd! try pinging Bondo or achris, either one might know....

    470 Distributor Mechanical Advance

I looked it up in an OMC parts manual! Found them on another site I can’t post it here but they were still available so I picked up a set of springs, new point plate etc. I also picked up a spare Prestolite for my 4.3... eBay....

Why not look around and see if you can find the original springs that it came with? I was able to find an original set of springs for mine and its 32 years old....

What´s the best replacement for AQ271C (or 570) 5.7 GM engine, ideally stroker?

I think at this point it might be a good idea to pick up a Volvo workshop manual.

You can do either, if you use the plastic ones just don't overtighten. The brass ones will last forever and if you use gasket sealer, I've never had any trouble getting them out with 100% salt water use. I've seen cases where the plastic one broke and caused a headache getting it out, so on my...

    470 Distributor Mechanical Advance

If it’s like a Prestolite under the point plate there are a pair of flyweights that are retained by springs. When the engine speeds up the flyweights move outward due to centrifugal force and advance the position of the rotor which advances the timing. Then when it slows down the springs pull...

What´s the best replacement for AQ271C (or 570) 5.7 GM engine, ideally stroker?

Lol. Just say NO to raw water cooling! I’ll run my old engine as long as I can but the next engine has to have a heat exchanger and remote oil filter mount!

Gasket sealer works fine, you could even use marine grease, I like OMC/Evinrude gasket sealer, Merc Perfect seal is the same thing, I use it on all the bolts on the outdrive to prevent seizing because it seals water out of the threads. So even better than anti seize. A good substitute easier to...

    1995 OMC 5.0L Winterizing

pic #2 & 3 is your raw water impeller, not the circ pump. With this, I'd mark and disconnect both hoses (don't mix them up) to let it drain, then hold up the hose that goes back to the transom (you show it in pic 2 & 4) and fill with AF with the outdrive down to push any residual water out the...

That sounds good I’d replace the plugs though so the threads don’t rust over the winter. Put some gasket sealer on the threads.

Yep agreed staying operational when you have old stuff is the name of the game.... Next thing will be a transom assembly. The original OMC stuff has held up surprisingly well after many years of mooring in salt water.
