    Re; Broke spark plug

That joint between the elbow and the manifold is something you have to monitor, if you see rust trails on the outside it is time to drain the manifold and inspect the water ports for rust and chunks of cast iron coming off and pitting on the sealing surfaces. I installed these 3 seasons ago...

Switching from Volvo Penta 4.3 to Mercruiser 4.3

I have a Teleflex control for my OMC which I have yet to install. But looking at the instructions what I learned is that the OE controls usually work only on that make of engine. OMC and Merc seemed to have controls that were specific to their set up. But, if the Volvo boat came with that...

    Winterizing a 2020 4.3L duoprop

You really should be able to get a workshop manual. It does not explain how to winterize in the owners manual? In any case you need to get all the raw water out of the raw water side. Heat exchanger, impeller housing, coolers for p/s and fuel and hoses. If I had it in front of me I might be...

Oil Pan (Sump) Bolt Torque Spec Needed

Like a valve cover you get it nice and snug but not so tight that it distorts the pan rails or gasket. Every few years when I have all the seats out etc I check the bolts on the pan, timing cover, bolt that holds on the dipstick tube, starter bolts and exhaust bolts.

1989 5.7 OMC engine turns but won’t fire

If you can post up a pic of the distributor close up. I have one of these and as long as it is not worn out they are very simple to service with new points, condenser and cap.

    Wet and Dry Joint Questions

Yes they do and they can look fine from the outside, but be bad under the rubber elbow exit hoses... These are not mine but shows you that even though the water ports etc don't leak, the elbow on the left would allow the engine to suck back water... keep an eye on that manifold to elbow joint...

Bell-ringing noise when starting engine ... what would cause this?

Agreed it sounds like slightly loose starter bolts, make sure that when you installed the new starter you used the right bolts. If they were just slightly too long they can allow the starter to shift and that eventually will break a starter bolt causing a lot of extra grief and work. I recently...

    Boat Voltage Question

I had a similar problem on my '88 FW with the OMC engine wiring harness and the Medallion gauges harness. What I had was low readings at the dash gauge, like only 12 V --12.5 V with the engine running, yet the alternator output was 14.2V as was charging at either battery. So I thought it was...

    OMC 5.7 V8 power loss

Scott I think the Weber on Mercs is actually a Carter clone as is the Edelbrock. Edelbrock did build Quadrajets after GM quit making them for a while but I don't know if any were marine units. The tricks to doing the Quadrajet rebuild (getting the air horn off) are driving the pin that holds the...

When logging on, I get what my MacAfee says is a virus!!!

What is this? Every so often I will get this when logging on, its something that looks like its prompting you to download the latest version of internet explorer, then the virus protection identifies it as a virus....

    4.3 MerCruiser Starter Problems

I use a spare battery I keep in the garage and a momentary switch (remote starter switch) to test starters. Be careful because the torque reaction will cause it to jump a bit as it cranks. The previous owner created quite problem for you there. I don't think that can be fixed without replacing...
