Full Power with Seats Next to Engine

I've thought the same, I prefer the way my boat is set up with the storage areas on each side of the engine and the big sun pad and the bench seat in front of that, it works better in a boat 20' or longer, perhaps you could redo the engine hatch with steel panels inside, sounds like overkill...

    4.3GL-J won’t crank or make a sound

If you have 12v at the big red wire terminal on the solenoid and 12V at the yellow red wire terminal when someone turns the key, then its the solenoid or the starter. just to be thorough, make sure you have a good ground (return path) on your negative cable from the battery to the bell housing...

    1988 4.3L mercuiser Carb problem

Yep the idle system is clogged if it only runs when the choke is closed because that enriches the mixture. You need to soak the carb in cleaner and blast out all the passages with compressed air, from a compressor, a can of comp air is not powerful enough. And if you attempt this yourself, wear...

4.3L / V6 Volvo Penta Circulation Hose Bursting (((Issue Solved)))

OK here is a schematic of the OMC/Volvo thermostat housing for the V6/V8 engines you can see the small bypass housing, that allows water to pass to the exhaust system from the impeller, this functions as kind of a pressure relief when the stat is not open (cold engine) and if it clogs you can...

Cheapest Way to Get My boat in the water (4.3L)

I would deal with a local machine shop who will be there to provide some warrantee service before I bought a set of unknown quality heads off of ebay. In fact that's what I did when I did my top end overhaul, yes they cost more than what you quoted there ($550) but the important thing is that...

2006 Four Winns Volvo Penta 5.0gxi-g Hesitation now won't start

reading this with great interest...it sounds like the pumps get 12V but then go to zero, what would be causing them to lose current? oh for the days when our fuel delivery problems could be solved with this:

1989 Stingray 5.0 Ford OMC engine froze

You certainly can use Barr Marine for manifolds & elbows but the exhaust pipes that mate the 4" elbow exits with the 3.5" OMC/Volvo Y pipe have to be factory parts. Some aftermarket companies like GLM may have made their own version of this part. Mixing and matching can lead to leaks. If you...

Can’t Separate upper & lower OMC Outdrive

hope you can see what I did in this pic...I put the 2 1/2" bolts in the lower drive mount holes, used the 2 nuts to hold them tight and put the all thread in the hole for the trim rams. Then put a scissor jack on each side under the all thread and one under the 2 1/2" bolts. Just jack slowly and...

5.0 Volvo Penta GXI rough idle and knocking

If stalls or loses power when you hit the trim button then that's a voltage issue, the trim pump is pulling enough amps to draw down the system voltage. I had a similar problem with my boat years ago with the standard junk battery cables that some boat makers install. You should go through all...

    Marine Quadrajet Overflow

the marine Q jets do not have a j tube like a holley, but have what you have on yours, there is definitely an overflow tube port for mechanical fuel pump applications.

    4.3 OMC struggles on acceleration

If you can, get a tach dwell meter and check it. Its a simple system. Points, condenser and mechanical spark advance. You should also get an advance timing light and check the total timing advance at the specified RPM.... 1st you rule out any ignition system issues, the move on to the carb. Is...

Cracked Block (looking for a quick fix)

the problem with rot repair is that the more you look the more you find...I fixed a LOT of rot on my also 1988 boat, did the most of the deck and stringer repair back in 2005, then fixed a spot in front of the gas tank in 2010, now am fixing one vertical piece, under the deck on top of the...

4.3GL PBYC not reaching operating temperature and starboard exhaust riser overheating

Here's a new VP style V6 manifold, and what the sealing surface and cooling passages look like...when you take the elbow off you can see how much rust is in both...but do the exhaust flow test first....you may have fixed it just by cleaning out the stat housing and installing a new 160* stat.

    OMC 4.3 Batwing Conversion Source

This is what came in my Barr kit and what I used, coated with Permatex Aviation on both sides, installed 3 years ago and no leaks.

Troubleshooting guide for water in cylinders

best advice I can give is to get a factory shop manual it will answer all your questions. Yes remove the small plastic housing, (3 bolts) behind that you will see 2 water ports, and a shaft that drives the impeller, water should come out of one of them when you hook up the muffs.

    OMC 4.3 Batwing Conversion Source

Here are some pix, you can see the later style comes a bit closer to the 'glass in the rear of the engine compartment, but not a huge difference. http://www.volvopentastore.com/Exhau...view_id.791178 Here's what I used...expensive but fits perfect and no leaks...and you can use easily available...
