    Can't remove 5.7 vertically.

Whoever designed that engine bay should be flogged with spark plug wires.

Bought my first boat to cut, gut and rebuild from bow to stern, including engine. Killed my back and suffered the wrath of the fiberglass demons

I found almost all my stuff on Amazon: Tyvek suits with hood (I found larger is better) - https://a.co/d/8lio1gP P100 respirator - https://a.co/d/9G3FlUm Goggles - https://a.co/d/64pxylm Also useful: Nitrile gloves (often worn under leather work gloves) Duct tape (I taped my sleeves to my...

    Smart tabs.

Smart Tabs cured porpoising and chine-walking on my boat. They also helped quite a bit with bow rise on holeshot and they allow me to stay on plane at speeds 3-5 mph slower. True trim rabs would doubtess give you more control and adjustability, but SmartTabs might help in your situation.

Bought my first boat to cut, gut and rebuild from bow to stern, including engine. Killed my back and suffered the wrath of the fiberglass demons

Ski lockers are great for storing fenders, an oar, etc. Be a shame to lose it... as others have said, storage on a boat is precious space.

    Would you?

Biggest thing I'd be concerned about is a situation where you have to stop quickly (e.g., kid on a bike darting in front of you); that could be a problem. Otherwise, for that short of a trip you should be OK.

    Smart tabs.

Which performance aspects would you want to see improved? Holeshot? Minimum speed to stay on plane? Eliminate porpoising?

Fell for my first scam but fixed before anything happened

Most of these folks are operating from other countries, so our laws are meaningless to them.

Bought my first boat to cut, gut and rebuild from bow to stern, including engine. Killed my back and suffered the wrath of the fiberglass demons

I think in Wisconsin, trailers don't have to be titled if the boat+trailer is 3000 pounds or less. I live in Illinois and I almost bought a WI boat when first looking for one, and the non-titled trailer caused me to look elsewhere. (That, plus the fact that there were issues with the boat.)

There are few restoration threads for 1989 Maxums in the Restoration area. I found this one, and while it only outlines the beginning stages, it may have useful information/pics for you: https://forums.iboats.com/threads/1989-maxum-remodel-with-updated-pics-advice-please.464640/ The stickies...

Getting ready for the ice and cold in central Texas!

What did George Carlin say? "Destroy the planet? We won't destroy the planet. The planet will shake us off like a bad case of fleas...."

    Need to add trailer brakes

I would add that if one is to get drum brakes, the Nevr-Adjust type are particularly nice. No adjustment needed as the break shoes wear.

    Flotation foam

Seems like it would be a lot easier and stronger if you just laid new fiberglass, rather than reusing the old piece.

    Need to add trailer brakes

If not boating in saltwater, adding electric brakes would be a snap. A number of online trailer vendors sell complete kits that would make adding electric brakes quite easy. You have the square mounting brackets, so it would be a pretty simple bolt-on procedure.

    Wood working questions

Butting end grain joints with biscuits will be fine. Expansion and contraction really only occurs perpendicular to the grain. If you're gluing and screwing (or nailing) pine boards to a plywood substrate (which is extremely stable), and if the pine is fully dressed with poly or a wiping oil, I...

That stinks. What kind of boat are you working on?

    Truck reporting over hitch weight

Yeah, it sounds like payload isn't your problem. I'd be looking at whether you have a class III or IV hitch.

    Truck reporting over hitch weight

In addition to your tongue weight, what is the payload weight in the truck (including passengers)? Lots of light duty trucks run out of payload capacity (e.g., tongue weight plus gear in truck plus passengers weight) before they exceed towing capacity.

    Bellows replacement

For a part as important as bellows, and for one as difficulty to replace, I cannot imagine using anything other than Quicksilver/Mercruiser.

Off-Season Float Battery Charging, 2 Batteries

I keep mine in the boat, on a NOCO maintainer all winter. If a battery is going bad, I'll figure it out soon enough come Spring, and in the meantime I won't have a frozen battery and battery acid in bilge.
