    1975 Sears Game fisher repair?

Whatever is under all that fiberglass is rotten, sorry to say. Drill a few test holes, but expect the worst. Is the outside hull cracked? The whole boat looks kind of twisted to my eyes....

    Struggling

Wow, from the mess you started with, you already got a lot of work put into this! I don't know anything about aluminum boats, but a lot of people hear will and have good advice. Don't give up!

First deck replacement, I have questions

As already stated, be sure to test the transom as well. A soft floor is annoying, a soft transom is dangerous. As for the foam, if the wood above it was rotten, then its likely wet at least on the bottom. The choice is to do a easy and quick cover up job that you will be doing again in a few...

    Putting in a floor hatch.

I just looked at your thread, that's very impressive work! My 2 main stringers under the floor were ,mahogany, they were wet but no rot in a 42 yr old boat. That stuff lasts forever! I may try CSM around the edges, just not sure how good i can get it to conform to the edges.

    Putting in a floor hatch.

Thanks for the advice, as for the sun weakening the hatch, that won't be a problem where I live. We are at about day 8 of rain, drizzle and fog, with another week of it in the forecast!

    Putting in a floor hatch.

I'm putting in a 40 x 10 inch hatch in the middle of the floor I'm replacing. I cut the hole this morning. What I'm wondering is do you put CSM on the cut edge of the plywood or just seal with resin? Also is there a best way to secure it to the floor using screws so that it won't become a place...

    vinyl paint

Funny you should ask that, I was wondering the exact same thing for seats as well. Mine are beige and I want them white. I tested one last night with regular Krylon spray can paint that i had lying around, its still tacky this morning. I'll let you know how it turns out, but I suspect it won't...

    fiberglass on floor

I might regret it, but I'm going to give it a try. It is sold as a thickener by some fiberglass companies for "above the waterline" applications, so we will see what happens.

    fiberglass on floor

Yeah, its talc baby powder (not the corn starch kind), if nothing else I'll have the nicest smelling boat in the harbor.........

    fiberglass on floor

I was going to use talc to thicken the resin. I know some say to absorbs water but I can't see how if its soaked in resin.....anyway its above the waterline (and hopefully always will be!) I think I'll overlap a little as you say and fair it up later. Going out tonight to cut the cloth into...

    fiberglass on floor

Could I make the filler material out of thickened poly resin?

    fiberglass on floor

I was more wondering about whether you would see the weave of the cloth thru the gelcoat.

    fiberglass on floor

Its woven cloth. The floor has 1808 underneath and a fair bit of structural support so i was hoping for some structural support but mostly a smooth surface. Do you think a couple of coats of gelcoat on top of that will hide the print of the glass?

    fiberglass on floor

Hi, I just wanted some advice on laying fiberglass on the floor of my boat. I have it coated with CSM as of yesterday and now plan to overlay that with 6oz cloth to hopefully get a fairly smooth finish. My question is: should I overlap the cloth where cut edges meet or just fit each piece as...

    Replacing stringers.

3/4 way thru a stringer/floor/transom/ I/O - outboard conversion, all done on trailer. No problems so far. I used cooza for stringers and transom, so it was a bit more expensive but I plan on keeping this boat as long as I can get in it!

    Little Boat - Good Vibes

I have seen people out in 12 ft boats on the bay i fish, but i have to say i cringe every time. I had a 16 ft glass boat and still didn't it was big enough. Weather can change pretty quick. At least wear a life jacket!

    Trim issues

Are you sure the battery itself is good? Also I once had a trim motor i thought was gone, so nothing to loose, i took it apart and found one of the brushes had a loose wire. I resoldered it, cleaned up the inside of the motor and put it all together and it worked perfect. I wouldn't buy a new...

Frozen and busted blocks in Texas

I was thinking the same thing, when the powers out and pipes are freezing in your walls, the boat might seem a lower priority!

    Yamaha f90 xa

Hi, I'm thinking about buying the above motor, Its a 2016, has 300 hrs. I'm wondering whats the difference between the xa and the xb models. Is there a noticable difference in preformance? Also does 300 hrs seem like a reasonable amount of use for a 4 yr old motor?
