    Crownline gas tank

On my '88 SeaRay, the interior frames had screws holding them. Once these were out the engine and fuel tank were easily accessible. On the other hand, my neighbors Boston Whaler outrage broke a stern eye. Unfortunately the stern eyes had been installed before the top cap was put on. There is...

Why would SELOC say never start the engine using the fresh water attachment.

SELOC manuals often have catastrophic errors in them. An OEM owners manual (usually free) often has flushing instructions.

Replace OMS pump with aftermarket or Original

Thanks for the reply. I do like the auto oil injection. I guess I am flying off the idea of a rebuild for $200 vs an OEM pump for $600. Your point about the oil side is valid, since there are no rebuild kits for the oil side.

Replace OMS pump with aftermarket or Original

My 1998 Johnny 150HPV6 has the original OMS pump. It is working fine, however, It has been 25years or more since new. Should I replace it as a part of PM and if so, should I use a rebuild kit ($195), an aftermarket one ($150) or an oem part for $600?

    Rotate Impeller on Occasion

Hey Cyclops, you might mark the flywheel before storage. That way you can tell if they ever did it. Not that I don't trust marinas implicitly. They are usually bastions of honesty.

    Is this propped up enough

You might clean off the rust with a piece of emery cloth, prior to driving out the pin. Lubrication of the pin is also likely a good idea.

So the motor is cooling properly?

    94 merc 150 xr6 over heat

That motor is cooled at low RPM by the thermostats. At high RPM it is cooled by the poppit valve. Did you check/rebuild the poppit valve? Have you checked the water intake holes in the gearcase for blockage. Often a broken piece of impeller will fall under the waterpump and clog that up...

Mercruiser 5.0 MPI - Constant beeping

Also, some of the MerCruisers had a temp sender for the temp gauge and an overheat sensor for the alarm. Make sure the wires were not switched as the overheat sender was either ungrounded (normal) or grounded (overheat). The temp sender for the temp gauge was a variable rheostat with different...

Mercury BlackMax 175Hp, difficult staring, and then bogging down.

Look for a silver disc on top of the block. It should have the serial number. My '93 has that exhaust idle relief tube, but I do not see it on your motor. You might reconnect your overheat sensor, as I see the tan wire hanging loose. Of course, it may be the temp gauge sender wire, it is...

    Gph at various rpm...thoughts?

It is very hard to give accurate numbers for your boat. It depends on hull design, trim position, load in the boat and other factors. i.e I had a Merc 1500 IL6 on my speedboat, for years. Once I had the boat loaded with camping gear, more than I ever loaded it up before or since. I ran...

Mercruiser 5.0 MPI - Constant beeping

You do not give a year. The engines changed a bit over the years, especially the thermostat housing. The temp alarm would sound if the sender wire was grounded. The sensor would ground the wire when it overheated. If the temp alarm wire fell off and touched the block or got pinched causing...

Mercury BlackMax 175Hp, difficult staring, and then bogging down.

What year is that motor? What is the color of the spark plugs? What spark plugs do you have in it? What kind of a beep does it have? Solid tone or intermittent? A lot of those motors have an exhaust idle relief hose from the block thru the lower cowling. Make sure that is indeed sticking...

    Rotate Impeller on Occasion

Rotating the driveshaft every few months will do nothing good or bad IMO. I believe the impeller will last just as long either way.

    Rotate Impeller on Occasion

Impellers that are flipped over often fail catastrophically, in short order, and that is bad for the motor.

    1986 Mercury 35hp Throttle/Spark Advance issue

Hanes manuals are not very good. Seloc and Climer are usually worse. A Mercury service manual is what you need.

    1986 Mercury 35hp Throttle/Spark Advance issue

It sounds like some part of the throttle linkage at the motor is mis-adjusted. I am not familiar with your motor exactly but look for adjustments from the throttle arm to the carbs. There are often stainless steel rods that have some threads. You will want to lengthen those to push the...

Thickness of Mercruiser 140 Manifold at Drain Plug Hole

Gee, bend a paperclip end to a 90*, and stick in in the manifold until you can hook the inside of the casting. Mark the part that sticks out. Now tape and mark the threads of the petcock with the depth mark and screw it into the manifold until it matches the mark.
