Marine Flywheel compared to an auto flywheel

Even better, add a drain valve to that hose. Then you don't need to remove it at all. That hose was always my #1 pain in the neck when winterizing. I added a drain to the hose and it makes winterizing so much easier.

    Boat pick up gone wrong...

Too many red flags for my liking. I'd be moving on...

Hi everyone, I’m new to the forum and a new owner of a 1973 Aristocraft 19. It is a total project

What part of Illinois are you in? I'm in west central Illinois, and with a couple of propane heaters in the garage, I was able to work through the winter to get my boat done. There were a couple of weeks when it was just too cold, but if the grinding is done outdoors, working in an unheated...

    Crownline 2007 220ex

Buying a 2007 boat is going to be almost entirely about the boat's condition and how well it was maintained. If you have not yet read it, take a look at the link at the top of this forum on buying a boat. Oh, and welcome to iBoats! The best place to get help with boats and boating...

Somber news for iboats forums members.

How very sad… he left his mark all over this place and he helped many of us. RIP, GA_Boater.

Alpha 1 Gen 2 lower end oil

Glad you got it figured out. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve had to do a job twice because I missed something like that. I guess that’s how we learn to do it right…

Hi everyone, I’m new to the forum and a new owner of a 1973 Aristocraft 19. It is a total project

Looks like a fun little boat! Have you sourced a replacement windshield yet? Those can be hard to find and/or expensive…

Alpha 1 Gen 2 lower end oil

That's the quad ring seal and it's easy to dislodge it when reassembling the drive. I bet it's partially (or fully) blocking the oil passage.

New to boats need help with battery choice

Foam doesn't affect how your boat sits in the water; it affects how fast (or whether) your boat sinks in the event of capsizing.

    Fixing bad motor mounts

Looks like rotted wood in your motor mounts, which means there is a high likelihood that other parts of the boat's structure may be rotted, too. I'd be checking stringers and the transom core for rot by drilling 1/4" holes into each, low and near the hull, to see if you get dark/wet/mushy...

Storage Compartment Handle For 2005 Larson 268 LXi

Have you checked with Great Lakes Skipper? They sometimes have old Larson parts.

    Rec gas prices???

Interesting... I don't have access to E85 most of the time, but on a large F150 forum to which I belong, the most common experience of those who use E85 (in Flexfuel F150s) is that it gives a nice performance boost over gas (either E10 or E0) but the mileage per gallon suffers with E85. I'd be...

    U Joint bellows orientation

Replacing bellows was not a fun task. No way I'd do it with anything but genuine Mercruiser/Quicksilver bellows.

    Factory holes in stringers?

Those look a lot like the fiberglass stringers that are in my boat. For my boat, the stringers were clearly cast outside the hull, then tabbed to the hull with fiberglass, then filled with foam as yours seem to be. Looks good!

Upgrading trailer tires and rims - need advice

Have you had problems with the trailer bottoming out using the current size tires? If not, I'd just replace with the same size. Given the very little trailering you do, I'd not be worried about getting high end tires. Those tires will dry rot long before they'll wear out.

    Bimini Measurements - Four Winn's SL262 - 2008

If you have the old one, a canvas shop should be able to sew a new one from that.

Thinking of buying a Maxum 2400 SCR. Thoughts?

Even if Maxum were still in business, it's not likely they'd have parts laying around for a 20+ year old boat, so I wouldn't let parts availability sway you too much. You'd be in the same boat (no pun intended) if you bought just about any late '90s early '00s boat. Just from the pictures, it...
