    1994 Johnson 150 HP

The dry chemical in a fire extinguisher is real caustic. It corrodes everything it touches. Make sure you wash it off of everything. Maybe it fogged the optical sensor?

    Bilge Pumps Not Working

You bought a 35 year old boat. You will be replacing much more stuff that that. The only issue with repair of the bilge pumps is usually getting to them. Use some clip leads to provide battery power directly to them and see if they work. If not pull them out and get new ones. If they work...

looking for a place to install pole holders on my bow runner.

You can install them on any railings you have. I screwed 10 pieces of PVC pipe on a piece of 5/4 and used copper pipe straps and wood screws to attach to the railing of my friends 30 foot cruiser. We removed them when not fishing. You can install them on the transom inside the boat or more...

Does Tohatsu make motors for Mercury or vice versa?

A few years ago my neighbor replaced his twin 225HP Merc outboards with Tohatsu 225s. He indicated that he could not get new Mercs due to supply chain issues, but the Tohatsu's were the same as Mercury. true or not?

    Water pump issues

When you rebuild waterpump you need to replace impeller, wearplate and two gaskets, 1 on each side of wearplate, at a minimum. Make sure these gaskets match wearplate and waterpump base cutouts. If the pump cover stainless steel cup is scratched, replace that also. If the pump base is melted...

Float setting on 1998 Johnson J115ELECM

I would recommend you doublecheck the part numbers for the carb kits, across a couple of sources. When I ordered carb kits for my '98 Johnny J150EXECD, I was sent the wrong ones. They were real close, as in most of the gaskets fit, but the carb base spaghetti seals were wrong.

    Gas and vent connection

Boats usually have either a separate vent and fill or a combo one. I am not sure what kind you have, but try the marine stores like Overtons, West Marine, heck maybe even iBoats.

    Fuel filler hose

Fuel fillers are normally on the outside of the boat, so fuel doesn't spill inside the hull. I am not sure why you would want two fill fittings for one tank. However, a brass Y in 1-1/2" size should work, I would think.

OK, so what was the HP difference between the '05 Merc EFI and the newer engine in HP?

1985 Black Max 150 Hp Leaks oil out of reservoir cap. I replaced the cap and still leaking.

Gee, I always carry a gallon of 2 cycle oil with me. If the oil injection fails, I dump the oil into the fuel tank and rock the boat a bit to mix it.

    Top speed

Do what you can to optimize, as was suggested. Pontoon boats are displacement hulls, for the most part. as such, 20MPH is not the best they can do, but is close. My neighbor has a 24' pontoon with a 150HP Yammie. He gets 22mph.

1979 115 ADI no spark, everything is new.

When the orange wires ground they tell the switchboxes to stop making spark. Disconnect them from the switchboxes and test for spark. If spark returns, check the wiring from switchboxes to ign key for continuity. They should not have any voltage on them and must connect to one of the "M"...

Cheap floor and foam replacement for weekend.

It is probably better if you do not rip the boat apart and patch it for the season. If you rip out the foam and rotten wood, and do not replace it with new foam and properly attached wood, the boat could be weaker than it is now. Alternatively, you could screw down some new plywood decking...

    5.7gs temp gauge wiring

A lot of sterndrives have a temp gauge and a overheat alarm. Each of those have their own senders. On my MerCruiser, both sensors were in the thermostat housing. If you proved the gauge sender is good, and the gauge is good, the wiring is likely bad.

    Stuck in forward?

Gearcases are tricky to install in forward. I would recommend you turn it CCW back to neutral as you did before. Now tilt the motor all the way up, grease the driveshaft and shift splines and install the gearcase. Turn the flywheel a bit to synch the driveshaft splines, and she should go on a...

When do you pull your freshwater boat?

As long as the water doesn't freeze, you are OK, with the outdrive down and the block is kept warm. On an I/O, I always put a 40W heating pad under the oil pan whenever the temps got to freezing. I would fish into Jan here on the NJ coast. However, once you pull it, it needs to be...

5.0 Mercruiser EFI - something causing push button circuit breaker trip on main panel

I think you need to look for a wire downstream of the circuit breaker, that carries power. It would be a thick wire say 8 gauge, and it would need to rub against the metal of the engine and have a bare spot where the insulation has rubbed off. You might see a burn mark as well.

    Waterski prop advice

You will want to ski at about 35MPH, if slalom. With your motor and boat, I would expect a 21P 3 blade prop would work well, and still give 45-50MPH or so at WOT. Turning point makes an inexpensive 3 blade alum prop with good rake.
