Why not mount transducer well below waterline?

You want the transducer to be just under water when the boat is on plane, if you can. Depth gauges are real handy at high speed, also, however, you do not want any drag from them to rob performance. If you have a spot in the bilge with solid fiberglass, you can mount it there, flat against the...

    Mercury 60hp Big Foot problem

Overheat is usually a solid tone. What year motor? 2 cycle or 4 cycle? If 2 cycle, check oil level.

Went to the lake and nearly got that sinking feeling...

Check the cockpit drain hoses between the ball valves and transom, for leaks. That is the place where they would leak, since it is below or at the waterline. Also check to see why the bilge pump failed to come on. You do have an automatic bilge pump, right?

You must hold key in while cranking for choking action.

Temperature Gauge Not Functioning Mercruiser Alpha One, Help.

Agreed, the connector is bad. If you can find a replacement connector, you could use some waterproof butt connectors to graft it to the old wires. something like thise...

Possible to get Yamaha speedometer output to show up on Garmin chartplotter?

Gee, my chartplotter tells me the GPS speed as a normal feature, no speedometer needed.

Does this sound like a bad head gasket?

Take a compression test to rule out head gasket. It sounds more like a bad ign system or flooding carb.

If the bearings have any play, the seals can leak, while in use, but seal when bench tested.

    Engine wont Start

Mark, In my experience with that motor, the CDI unit will produce a good spark even if the voltage is down a bit when cranking. A good battery should maintain about 11.5VDC when cranking. CDI units often feed 300V into the ign coil, producing 500K volts at the plugs. If the battery voltage...

    Evinrude 50 impeller

It should be stiff, but turnable by hand. Make sure you use the correct key, as a lot of water pump kits have two. My J150EXECD uses the green one. The keys are wedge shaped, and impeller should be pretty loose before turning the driveshaft CW, which locks it tight. Make sure the oring under...

    1992 XR6 150

The OEM of the cables usually has a guide to measurement of the cables on their web site. I would use that vs other non-oem sources.

Gee, I gave you the substitutions. I even advised on where they should be used. They are readily available and reasonable in price.

Gee, Rob, you asked for substitutes for the OMC stuff, and we have given them. It sounds like you don't believe us, so use whatever you want.

    1992 XR6 150

Gee, I use a single cable teleflex steering system on my speedboat. I have not had any issues. The issue with cable and pulley system was that the motor would pull and overpower the springs I never saw that, although I had a fat fifty motor. I have not seen that on a single cable system.

    Outdrive oil leak..

I have no idea how motor oil would make it's way there, however, motor oil should be exclusive to the engine. Check the driveshaft bellows for gear oil. I don't know exactly how it would get to the shift shaft, but outside of some sort of a crack in the OD casting...

OK, for extra credit, what former Dallas Cowboy used to hawk the Workmates? I guess that advertising worked on me. I had one but gave it to mi BIL. I wonder if he ever used it.

    Outdrive oil leak..

What kind of oil is it? I presume gear oil, but you need to verify. If it stinks like rotten eggs is it gear oil. I presume your OD is Gen 1? If so, the only source of gear oil is the seal between the upper and lower gearcases. maybe the gasket has failed? Alternatively, maybe the yoke...

    Evinrude 50 impeller

I expect that RTV would work. I use a plain old vice with two pieces of wood to clamp the skeg. Not as good as a workmate.

    Engine wont Start

A '73 Merc 850 should be battery-powered CDI ignition. It should have hot spark, regardless of cranking RPM, however, the choke requires good cranking speed to achieve a rich starting mixture. The timing marks should be on the cowling support. Set the motor to TDC and remove the distributor...
