    Mercury 115 Tachometer Problem

Yes, the grey wire is the same as either of the yellow wires. They just pull it thru for convenience. I would not think that the regulator could be good, and the grey wire not putting out the tach signal, however, if that happens, you can substitute either of the yellow wires to get a signal...

Advice for Portable Fuel Tank Mercury 115hp Command Thrust

Gee, any type of marine fuel tank should work. If using a portable tank on a larger motor, get the largest you can handle, say 12Gal. If you use a quick connect fitting, you need the correct type. On a 115HP motor with a built in tank, I would directly connect the fuel line, and use 3/8"...

    96 j150exedb. Water pump

The drive wedge must be wedged (locked) against the impeller in order to drive it. So grab the impeller, and turn the driveshaft CW to lock it. The wedge is just a solid piece of plastic. If it is not locked, I would think it could be damaged, and the impeller slip. Also, make sure you use...

Surprise My electric car is not charged.

Gee, I am not sure what those attachments show. What I can say is that the water level in Barnegat Bay, NJ has risen quite a bit in the last 30 years. We now seem to get about 4 or 5 floods a year. 10 years ago it was half of that. 30 years ago, we had hardly any floods.

    Starved for fuel

Depending on year, MerCruisers had mechanical or electric fuel pumps. What do you have? They normally do not have primer bulbs.

There are lots of videos on utube showing transom replacement. You might watch a few and get an idea what is involved.

Surprise My electric car is not charged.

Around here the electric utilities sell backup generators. So if they screw up, you still have juice, and they make more $$. Gee I wish I could have made more money when I screwed up in business! On a related rant. I needed to raise my dock for the second time, as it was under water for a...

Marine stores do sell them. There are not a lot of styles, however. Check Overtons, West marine and Amazon

    Starter fluid everytime....

It is doubtful that the ether damaged your engine. When the engine doesn't start, a 50::1 fuel solution is in the engine. Actually a lot of the gasoline has evaporated leaving the oil. As was said by post #12, a short a blast of ether will not harm a 2 cycle engine.

Advice for Portable Fuel Tank Mercury 115hp Command Thrust

Makes sense for the timeframe. No pressure tanks on 115HP motors, right?

Advice for Portable Fuel Tank Mercury 115hp Command Thrust

Gee, pressurized tanks were on the old Johnnyrudes, say mid 50's. By 1958 my Johnny Fat-fifty had a fuel pump and a regular fuel tank. I do not know if Mercury ever used a pressurized fuel tank. I would be surprised if Mercury made a 115HP motor with a pressurized fuel tank.

    Trilobe Pin

There look to be at least two different PTT systems you can have on that motor. The three ram PTT system should have the trilobe pin. The single ram PTT system doesn't. What do you have?

    Starter fluid everytime....

If you do use ether on any motor, make sure you have a fire extinguisher nearby. Ether can easily catch on fire from sparks that do not ignite gasoline vapor. A motor can seem to have no spark, and then whoosh! Ask me how I know.....

    gamefisher manual

Gee, wern't some Gamefisher's Mcculloch motors? I also thought some of them were Johnnyrude's. Just so you know, a lot of the Eska's had Tecumseh powerheads.

    Data on Vintage Boat

KBB usually has some of the info you want on boats. You probably need to determine the brand name, as I think you will need that to look it up.

    Mercury 115 Tachometer Problem

You need to test the yellow wires for AC voltage when the engine is running. So either stick the voltmeter leads into the yellow bullet connectors, and start the engine, or disconnect the yellow wires and test them with the engine running. If you find AC voltage on the yellow wires, the...

Not sure that is definitive. A voltage test would help determine if the VR is good.

    Mercury 115 Tachometer Problem

The voltage drop when running is a bad sign. Did you check for AC voltage at the tach? If you get some, the stator is likely good. Depending on the year of the motor, it will have a rectifier, voltage regulator or perhaps both. Those are more likely to fail (and cheaper) that the stator...

    Mercury 115 Tachometer Problem

Check the voltage, ground and stator signal at the tach. Obviously the battery voltage is DC. Expect the stator signal to be AC. If the voltage jumps around, you likely have wiring issues. if the voltages are steady, the tach could be bad. They do not last forever.

1985 mercury 175hp starter sticking sometimes

There is no way to know from your description. First remove the nut on the Bendix drive (above the gear that engages the flywheel). Remove the Bendix gear and clean the shaft with a mild solvent. Do not use acetone, toluene or other strong stuff as it will cause the starter windings to short...
