Question with heaters for fiberglasss work

From all that I read, it was only when poly is used in really, really large volume that there is a problem. I was concerned about it, because I had planned to restore my boat in a garage with open flame propane heaters. I researched it quite a bit, and pretty consistently found that it is mostly...

    Is this legit?

The windshield was probably the most valuable part of that boat, eh?

    Is this legit?

Bayliners of that era are not known to be very well made and that one does not look like it was particularly well cared for. Unless you're looking for a boat to part out (or a trailer to sell), it's probably not worth anything.

Anyone here interested in Japanese kitchen knives?

I love to cook, and I cook a great deal, and lately I've been very much into nice kitchen knives. For years, I've used decent stainless steel knives, like Henckels and Wustofs (and earlier, even some Chicago Cutlery), but in the last several years, I've discovered hand made Japanese knives. In...

    Transom Glassing Opinions??

If you wanted to get really picky, you could rough up the existing fiberglass with some sandpaper, but a good washdown with acetone would be sufficient.

    Smarttabs

My boat, a 19' bowrider, was repowered from a 4.3 Volvo Penta to a 350 Mag and when I hit about 50 mph, the boat would start chine walking. Pretty unnerving. I also had pretty substantial bow lift. I did some reading here and other places and SmartTabs were mentioned as an option. Initially...

Question with heaters for fiberglasss work

I heated my garage with standard propane heaters while fiberglassing my boat over the winter. I was using polyester resin, and the propane heat posed no problems. MEKP, the catalyst, is very flammable, but once it's mixed in the resin, there is no problem*. You just have to be careful when...

    Smarttabs

Are you hoping to solve some problem with the SmartTabs (e.g., porpoising, chine walking, trouble getting out of the hole)? As much as I like mine (for resolving chine walking), I would not add them without a reason.

I have them and I really like ‘em. A great addition to your boat.

    Garmin power

I had a Humminbird GPS/fishfinder unit that used to do that. It was wired into a circuit off the starting battery. Every time I started or restarted the motor, I had to restart the Humminbird, which was not very handy when pulling skiers or tubes (the Humminbird served as my speedometer, so I...

    Replacement bumper cover

My daughter hit a racoon while doing about 60 mph in her Chevy Cruze, and it did a bit of damage to the bumper cover (and maybe some of the other plastic on the right front bumper area), so I was looking for an inexpensive option to fix it. I found a place on Ebay that sells bumper covers...

Alpha one Gen 2 Impeller Direction

For Gen 2s, I heard that they can flip themselves in the 'wrong' direction when the motor is shutting down... I think I may have read that in something @achris posted some time ago. I think for Gen 2s, it's much easier for the vanes to flip around than on the first gen of Alpha Ones.

    Oil change could be easier...

The threaded portion of my dipstick tube is really hard to reach, also. It's really hard to get the garden hose attachment to screw on. I can get it, but only with a pair of mechanic's pliers and some contortions. Another alternative is to get the kind of pump that have a long thin poly tube...

    Larson users guide

When I first got my boat, I was looking for a manual, too. I wrote Larson (before they disappeared like so many boat makers), and they sent me 2008 version of their manual for runabouts (bowriders & cuddies). As others have said, it contains a lot of general information, and just a bit specific...
