    Grinding going into gear

With the prop off, the only shift load is the propshaft. You will hear a short clunk or loud click when shifting if the gearcase is good. RPM would not matter much for that test. Of course with the mass of the prop, the noise will increase as RPM rises. A video with sound might help. BTW a...

    Trim position sensor

Trim gauges are overrated. They react slowly to trim, and only give a rough approximate of the trim angle, which changes as the sender corrodes. It is best to trim by sound and the feel of the steering. You will hear the trim motor sound different at full down and full up. All other trim...

    1988 35hp - Multiple issues

Was that motor submerged, perhaps? I am not sure how the driveshaft and crank will turn 1/2 way, and the flywheel won't budge. Rusted top bearing and broken crank would seem to be a possibility.

1976 Mercury 1150 Lower Unit Compatibility

I would think the '78-79 1400 will fit as they are simply a rebadged 1500s. I would expect the gearcases from all the 80's inline 6's to fit, however, I did not try those.

    Murcury 850 thunderbolt ignition tachometer

OK, if you have an automotive style tach, it may work just fine with the pulses from the switchbox, as you have it wired now. No way to know, but try it. Let her idle and see if you believe the reading. if the motor is tuned correctly, you motor should idle at 850-1000RPM on the flusher. The...

1976 Mercury 1150 Lower Unit Compatibility

The 1500 will fit, as will the inline 4 cylinders (800, 850) from most of the 70's. The IL4 motors have a lower (2.3::1) gear ratio, than your 1150 (2::1). Obviously the 1150's will fit from the 70's as well. Not sure about the 125HP models, as that was either older or much newer. Where are...

That is correct according to the maxrules model year guide.

2000 Mercury 175 efi Water pump issues.

A lot of those Merc V6 motors do not run water out the telltale until the thermostats open. On a cool day with cool water at idle the motor may not get warm. If water is coming out the gratings above the antiventilation plate the motor is pumping water.

    1988 35hp - Multiple issues

If you peer into the gap, you should see the waterpump housing, as it sticks up from the gearcase a bit. The driveshaft is in the center of the waterpump housing. The penetrating oil must run down the waterpump housing over the slinger, onto the driveshaft and then down the driveshaft into the...

Can i put a different brand outboard on my boat

I have swapped brands of motors onto my boats. The boats never complained. Seriously though, the Johnnyrude should have the standard bolt pattern. Hopefully the Force had it as well, so you do not need to drill and fill.

    1988 35hp - Multiple issues

Not sure about the 35HP Mercs, but on the 850, 1150, 1500 and my newer 135HPV6 the exhaust housing is to the rear rear of the driveshaft. If you want to drill a hole in the midsection, drill it toward the front, just behind the shift shaft and it will better expose the driveshaft. I personally...

    1988 35hp - Multiple issues

Tip the good motor on it's head and suspend it an inch off the ground. If the ground is concrete, pad it. Liberally spray penetrating oil into the 1/8" opening, hoping some will hit the driveshaft and run down into the crankshaft spline. Tap some wooden wedges into the 1/8" opening to add some...

    Merc trim pump

The rams can allow water into the system, without PTT oil leaking out. Replace the reservoir and the fluid and bleed the rest of the water out of it. Launch and monitor for new water. You can be lazy (and cheep) and just suck the oil out of the reservoir and replace it every time the water...

    New issues on engine

That is an old inline Merc, right. Dry out the area and put a dab of silicone on the leak. Alternatively, you could replace the water jacket cover gasket, however, you risk breaking some or all of the bolts holding it on.

    Dual cable rotary steering

Gee, I run a single cable standard Sea Star system on my 21 footer with a Johnny 150HPV6 engine. I have no issues with it. I would recommend the no feed back version, as it is a bit better.

    Sharrow prop

There is a Utube video where they talk about MIT inventing a Toroidal prop for drones that is quieter and more efficient than a std prop. They quickly then talk abut the Sharrow prop. Kinda looks to be a Sharrow ad, with the drone stuff thrown in to make a case for the technology.

    1994 Johnson 115hp, V4…Tilt Trim question?

If only the tilt piston seal leaks, there would not be an external leak. They PTT uits also have check valves. These could leak, but are pretty reliable. Does she leak down fast or slow?

    Murcury 850 thunderbolt ignition tachometer

Of course, a 4 cylinder 2 cycle motor's ignition pulses can mimic an 8 cylinder 4 cycle engine's ign pulses. However, there is no way to know if that tacho can read the OB's battery powered CDI ign pulses, as it is likely for a points/coil ignition.

    1996 90HP Mercury 2-Stroke - Plug Read Help Diag

Possibly, however, it is a simple test to see if you have good spark, and if so, rule out that issue.

    4 Blade?

That looks to be a bass boat. They are usually light and fast. 3 blade props are usually preferred for light and fast boats. A 3 blade prop with a large amount of rake is usually a good choice for speed and performance, on that style of hull.
