    Short circuit

also might check to see if the Rectifier/regulator got smoked also, but I do not think that would keep the starter from tuning the motor

85 hp yamaha 2 stroke not cranking when cold out side.

for the motor to start and run the cylinders need to have good compression, good spark at the correct time, and the proper fuel to air mixture. when it is cold and will not fire up,chack comroession, check spark, check timing with a timing light, if all that is good then you are left with a fuel...

Engine runs, but does not turn the prop

while you are at it look to see if there is some evidence on the lower unit of a big shark showed up and tried to bite the prop off while it was running in those high seas

    Yamaha water jacket corrosion

looks like plenty of meat left on all sealing surfaces to me. I would remove as much build up to make sure cooling passages are clear and put it back together with new gaskets

    HPDI 150 won't stay running

if the rail pressure is in spec as the motor dies, I do not see a fuel supply as a problem. but injectors all firing properly would be, along with spark and timing. just reread the original post and it says it only idles for 15 - 20 seconds. I believe I have read where those motors do not run...

    Oil Injection Pump

Just remove the drive shaft for the pump , from what I read with no oil being pumped no lube ,which will cause a failure possibly damaging the crank shaft

    1987 130 v4

look to see if that old motor has a push pull shift shaft or a twist like the newer ones. if a push pull, find out where the joining nut is and how to get to it. some required to be in reverse to be able to undo it

    1991 DT100 Crankcase Puncture

compression test would tell of all pistons and rings are still intact and moving the way they should. or just take it apart to see what happened.

    1984 yamaha 150 2stroke

yes the pulser coils are under the flywheel along with the charge coils ( that charge the capacitors in the CDI) and lighting coils (that power lighting/and battery charging and other 12 volts needed on the motor)

    1984 yamaha 150 2stroke

mercury calls them triggers, Yamaha calls them pulsers. if the CDI does not get the signals to fire each plugs, they will not fire. so maybe you should test to see if the CDI is getting the signals

    1984 yamaha 150 2stroke

I know nothing about a motor that old, but the service manual for the motor should give testing procedures. Peak voltage readings into and out of the CDI should give you some direction to be looking. how many pulser coils does this old motor have telling the CDI when to fire the plugs? my...
