    Optimax 200 overheating specific conditions

Right, no pump base. I get it. The impeller has a bottom, sometimes called the base of the impeller. If that rubber takes some damage, the motor can overheat at idle and cool fine at high idle and higher RPM.

    gear box oil leaking

Smell the stuff that is leaking. If it stinks like rotten eggs, it is gear oil, and you have a leak. A pressure test is the best way to find out where the leak is. Alternatively, if it smells like oil or gasoline, it is 2 cycle oil and normal.

    Replacing Flotation Foam

So he should put heavy weights on the deck to lessen the chance the floor will get busted up by the foam? What sense does that make? Also, what is advantage of cutting holes in new deck to pour the foam in, and then repairing them? Also makes no sense. Pour the foam, let it cure, cut off...

    Trim tilt

Are you saying that the power trim up function won't work? If so, does the trailer tilt up function work?

18’ nitro 150 blackmax rooster tail or no rooster tail?!?

A rooster tail is wasted power. It does look cool though.

    Jon boat trailer wheel wobble.

The play in the bearings/hub you show in the movie is very bad and unsafe. Remove the cotter pin and tighten the nut with a wrench, while spinning the hub. Now, without moving the hub, loosen the nut and then hand tighten the nut. Now check the hub for proper movement. Hubs should turn...

    1971 Ted Williams game fisher

There was a replacement module for the points used in the 1970s. Those were green square plastic. They use the magnet on the flywheel as a trigger to fire the coil. I think you still needed the condenser, but not sure. Those are likely still around in some form.

    Optimax 200 overheating specific conditions

Actually I said impeller base. If the impeller base gets some damage, the Mercs will overheat at idle, but run cool at high idle and faster.

2-Stroke Intermittent Bogging During Break-In (25:1 oil mix)

a 25::1 gas- oil mix should never foul a spark plug. 60 years ago all 2 cycle motors ran that mix or one with more oil, the best we had was magneto systems and non detergent SAE 30 motor oil, and they still didn't foul spark plugs,

Anti Siphon Valve on Fuel Tank Pickup?

Well that explains why you call yourself dingbat. It is a good thing your fuel lines have lasted 15 years, without leaking fuel into the bilge.

What is this leaking from my lower unit?

Smell the stuff. If it stinks like eggs, it is gear oil and not normal. If it smells like oil or gasoline, it is 2 cycle oil and normal.

Anti Siphon Valve on Fuel Tank Pickup?

The primer bulb and the fuel line connector DO NOT serve as an anti siphon valve. The A-S valve shuts off the fuel, if the fuel line breaks at a place lower then the fuel level in the tank. if it does that, fuel would siphon into the boat bilge. If your fuel line never dips below the fuel...

    outboard motor mounting height?

Have someone drive the boat on plane and lean over the transom and see where the antiventilation plate is riding. If the plate is higher, the effect of the trim is lesser, but speed may be higher. "driveability" may also be decreased. Lower mounting may give more effect to the trim, but lower...

    1971 Ted Williams game fisher

Those motors were made by different manufacturers on different years. A lot of them were air cooled Tecumseh engines. They used a coil under the flywheel, with points and a condenser. Vary similar to a lawnmower of that timeframe. it would best be known as a magneto. I would take it to a...

    Optimax 200 overheating specific conditions

Still strange behavior. The only suggestion is a possible workaround. Those Merc impellers can get some damage to their bases. This causes less volume to be pumped on idle, and they can overheat. Higher speed pumping is fine. If you are sure the impeller is good, this isn't the issue...

What motor? What part do you want to backflush? There is no standard way to do it, so specifics are needed.

    Oil on choke?

Old 2 cycle engine? If so, oil kinds gets everywhere. 4 cycle engine? probably still not an issue.

    Gear Oil Questions

I use full synthetic on my '98 Johnny 150V6. It pushes a heavy boat, for hours on end. I also use this boat in cold temps. I use dino stuff in my '93 Merc 135V6. It pushes my speedboat which is light, and used in warm weather only. Does it really make any difference? Not that I have seen...

    Gear Oil Questions

Any Marine gear oil for mechanical shift motors (that is what you have?) will work fine. Wallyworld plus many automobile parts places have them for less than $10/qt. Gearcase gaskets are available at marine stores, sometimes at wallyworld and on amazon. Keep a supply of them on hand. Mercury...

    Greetings help with controls

Is that a 1975 2 cylinder motor? If the motor is 1996 or older, generally any Mercury or universal control will fit. Your current control looks to be a universal panel mount one.
