    Ventelation cures

That behavior is unusual. It should not bog without using trim, and it shouldn't ventilate easily, with the A-V plate at or under the surface. Without anything else to blame, I will blame the prop. Almost all props are cupped these days (have been for 30 years), so that should not be the...

    Optimax 200 overheating specific conditions

You didn't mention any repairs of the poppit valve. That probably merits an inspection at least. If the poppit valve was sticky, it can cause everything from mild overheat to major overheat.

    1968 ish Johnson please help!!

Gee, isn't the first thing to check is for spark, followed by compression? If spark is weak or absent, the ign system needs some attention. I believe those motors had twin magnetos with coils, points and condensers. So inspect the coils for cracks. Replace any that are cracked. Then clean...

    Intermittent Starter

Broken wires/windings in starter, dirty connections in ign keyswitch, wiring harness, solenoid, broken brushes in starter, bad ground somewhere. If it were me, I would inspect all the wiring, clean all the connections and see if it helps. Next is to disassemble the starter, clean it up...

what does this wire do ?

A standard Mercury wiring harness would normally have a wire for the tachometer. This wire would run to the control and therefore be available to connect to a tach on the dashboard. I am therefore not sure why someone would need to install that orange wire. That motor looks like an 80's or...

    Ventelation cures

Have someone drive the boat at cruise, with motor down. Take a look over the transom and observe anti-ventilation plate. It should be riding on the surface of the water. Are there any transducers, speedo pickups or anything else near the prop on the hull?

Fuel tank size on 92 Sylvan 16' Sea Troller

Sure, throw a portable tank of fuel in the boat and run her until dry. Make sure you can switch the fuel line to the portable tank.

Fuel tank size on 92 Sylvan 16' Sea Troller

Sometimes OEMs like SeaRay have spec sheets on their websites for older models. Fuel capacity is often contained in those specs. You can also try KBB. They have specs too.

    Optimax 200 overheating specific conditions

Let me see if I understand. It runs fine, but the gauge shows overheat, when restarting after a short shutdown. Sounds like heatsoak. You have a warm motor. You shut it down, and the cooling water drains out of it. Residual heat causes it to show a hot reading. Does it run fine after...

    Motor well boot sealing

I think I would much rather disconnect the cables and lines from the engine, rather than trying to seal a split boot. That is just me.

    Fuel leak

A 1972 boat is likely to have an aluminum or more likely a steel fuel tank. If you have one leak, unless it is simply like a fuel gauge sender, you will soon have more. Some swear by dumping some epoxy into the tank to seal it. If course, that only works with bottom of the tank leaks. Check...

Prop for hole shot water skiing

When starting a skier, use full tabs, until boat and skier are on plane. Put most of the boat's live load as far forward as possible, for start. Move them back if it can be done safely. Then raise tabs. If you have a bowrider, and it is full of people, watch for the bow to catch a wave and...

Fuel tank size on 92 Sylvan 16' Sea Troller

If you can get access to the top of the tank, they usually have a capacity on them. Measuring it is another way. One would think it is at least 18 gal.

J150EXECD No spark w/ regulator connected

Well, good luck. Mine rusted on the "face" of it, that touches the cooling water. I expected it to be made of brass or SS. Not sure what it was made of. Be careful not to scratch it. Maybe it is epoxy over steel.

    Motor well boot sealing

Yours does need replacing. I do not have a better ideal. Use some silicone on the base of the boot, cut the boot hole larger if necessary to get cables, steering cable, fuel and electric line thru it. Install a cable tie around boot and lines to help it seal somewhat.

J150EXECD No spark w/ regulator connected

Unfortunately I would recommend that you replace with an OEM part. I have had the aftermarket VRs rust out on me. Not sure why that happened.

    Regular fuel

Gee, alcohol in gasoline is no issue. No backfiring, nothing. It runs just as well as straight gasoline. If you folks want to raise the price of fuel by adding seafoam, or other additives, it is your $$. However, I think you are giving away your money for no benefit....

    Control lever removal?

On some of those older controls, the handle pulled straight out, for throttle only. Is that what you meant?

    150 hp bogging down

Clean your main jets and see if that helps. Remember there are six of those. They are located on the sides of the bowls. You motor may also have a power jet, whatever that is. It looks to be on the bottom of the carb. Probably worth cleaning as well. Not sure if their are one or two...
