    salt can go with boiling it in hot water ... calcium can be dissolved with plain vinigar ..(hotter the better) petroleum gunk can be dissolved with lacquer thinner and some folks just soak in Pinesol. ultrasonic cleaners help or dremmel wire brush

    50 years boating with part of it old style fuel then ethanol came along Had 1 yes 1 issue with jellied fuel clogging a small OB.... rest is history ... no issues with ethanol 87 octane ( max 50 -60 hours boating/season)

    opinions differ...has I stated a few times SF changed by backfiring flame throwing snowblower back to a smooth running workhorse after 10 minutes ... maybe snake oil in outboards but I never did have to clean-up/replace the carb on my snowblower at -10C ... it has been 3-4 winters now...

    selenoid contact surfaces could have welded closed .... tap the selenoid see if it drops the stuck connection when the key is ON .... if selenoid is ok the options are few.... bad key internals shorting battery +12 to the START key control wire... battery +12 v reaching the selenoid...

    been burning 87 octane for 17 years in my 75 ETEC with full tank storage over winter (6 months using EV 2+4D fuel conditioner circulated in the system) never any issues at Spring start ups

    10 psi is a good start do a vacum test also . some folks don't bother doing the whole GC seal kit and just change the oil mid season and at bed time. used proper seals for the vent and oil screws .. some nylon washers at the hardware store are to stiff.

    ETEC power to drive the pump begins with 12v then it is switched EMM grounds that manages the 55v supply to the pump If the FICHT runs the same basic way... with pulsed grounds from the EMM the power on FICHT is 40volts !!! see service manual schematics ...

    shxxt happens you know..actually a bad oxydized cable crimp will do it while still allowing enough juice to flow for a good VOM reading . time wil tell. of course not reporting the proper symptoms to the Doc. can lead to the graveyard :)

    Battery is good, and there is power at the solenoid and the starter. if so... bad starter or bad grounding has my vote !
