    any chance you can drill a very small hole (to be pached later and painted over) and insert a small spray can plastic straw to shoot the release agent (PB or WD 40) directly on the lock mecanism hook . you could even drill from the underbelly where it won't even show cosmetically.

    if heat keeps it from starting ....change the condition sorry my limited experience did not permit me to rapidly determine the year of manuf. I'll leave this one to you and 909 to sort out. . looking forward to a happy ending.

    well having a model # will help pick a diagram in the mean time ...cooling suspect parts to restore sparks may help. shooting coolant spray on the ignition coils could help pinpoint problem components & restore ignition racerone... how about sharing that model #

    heat causes expansion causing breaks or shorts ....start with condensers if never replaced .. they really need to be tested with high voltages not frequently available unless you buy or build a condenser test box progess to more $$ parts like ignition coils or try to protect them...

    don,t know much about the rest but very carefull $$$$$ on the return VST nipple and change the VST conical filter inside the VST return nipple . they crack easy so go easy . check your PM's the HS pump and rail should be full of fuel so starting up should go smooth ... experts on FICHT...

    F.R. I actually resorted to using a small bolt after messing up a split pin... & it worked fine but I did not know they stole my invention :-) $67$ inlc taxes :-( :-( here in Canada !!!

    true ignition coils no but other failure prone parts could be checked out condensers, breaker point charge coil etc... probably just dirty breaker points

    you may want to add a fuse on the +12V feed from the selenoid to the start key...more modern engine wiring have such a fuse so the full amps from the battery don't burn up things in case of a short to ground.
