    not sure on zukes, but Yamahas call the the coil that drives the spark the charge coil. lighting coil is what run the lights and charges the battery may just need a rectifier regulator if you have a lighting coil already

    timing light will tell if timing is in spec and advancing as it should and it will show if spark is good when problem shows up. could be off idle ports are dirty, so has a hard time transitioning to upper RPM. heated sonic bath cleaner may be a good idea
