    Ignition coil ohms .02-.04 ?

Micro ohms is a scale on some meters made for electronics work. usually you can see the difference between a dead short and not a dead short. if ign coil has not a dead short, the primary winding is likely good.

    Mercury vs Evinrude Interchangeability?

if you cannot hear a 2 cycle 1988 OB run, I suspect you need a hearing aid. They are not quiet like 4 cycle motors, even at idle.

    Vibration TurningPoint 4 blade

Newer TP props use XMS hubs as well as their own. They are brass and plastic, and specifically adapt the prop housing to the number, position and size of the splines of the propshaft. Mercury OB and I/O splines are longer than Johnnyrude OB splines, for example.

    Gas tank size

So this guess of fuel tank size is for adding fuel stabilizer? What a concept!

    Mercury vs Evinrude Interchangeability?

I would expect that tach to work for either. You would need the Tach setting for your Evinrude. The OEM web site should tell you that info.

    Vibration TurningPoint 4 blade

I have used on for the last 2 seasons. No issues at all. I think they are great, BTW. You have the correct hub kit for your motor? Is it possible your prop shaft is slightly bent?

    Gas tank size

The tank should be marked with capacity. An 18 footer of that vintage will have a 30-35 gal tank, I would think. Why not fill a 6 gal tank, and run the main tank dry, come home on the remote tank and see what it takes to fill it.

Is on deck fuel tank legal?

It is legal in NJ. I expect it to be legal in Ma, but you should check.

Winter Storage - Grease on cables

I use boat trailer wheel bearing grease on cables and zercs, exposed bolt heads and anything else that can rust. Corrosion guard on the block is useful as well.

    Mercury vs Evinrude Interchangeability?

Well, it is not always that simple. Tachs made in the last 15 years or so work for both Merc and Evinrude/Johnson. They are connected the same for either. Older ones had a special connection for evinrude/johnson outboards. Tachs older than that were made specifically for one brand or the...

    Winterizing Question

Exhaust shutters are stainless steel. They are expected to keep water from surging into the exhaust passage, if you drop from high speed suddenly. Mine broke and fell off years ago. Just don't abruptly come down from high speed, and water will not enter the engine. As for the double...

    Mercury 850 Throttle/Shift Cables

It has been a long time since I did that. Don't you need to push the "ears" that stick out on the top of the latch, in, just a bit, and then up and around to the outside to unlock it?

97 150 hp carb battery cables

Yes, smaller gauge wires are thicker. AWG originally referred to the number of times the wire was drawn thru the die to reduce it's diameter to the right size. Zero AWG wire is good for 150 amps. 4 AWG is only good for 85 amps. Starters can use 150 Amps, however, battery cables are...

97 150 hp carb battery cables

Gee, 6 ga is pretty thin for battery cables. 4 ga is for 100amps, which is marginal, for a starter. I would go at least 2 ga.

    Overweight motor

90HP is a lot of power for a 16 footer with a flat bottom. Most 16 foot v hulls are not rated for that power. I suspect you are way over powered for that design of the hull. Some boats have a max speed, based upon the hull style. Your hull should run dead flat in the water, since it is flat...

    Over heating problem. need help

So it overheats at 3000 RPM and not at 2000 RPM or 4000 RPM? Maybe the poppit valve is sticky, and the water pressure at 3000 RPM is not enough to open it? A guess....

    Quick Start

Quickstart uses white/black wire from temp sensor on head, directly to powerpack. The black/yellow and black/orange wires when grounded by the ign switch and shift assist switch, kill spark to the motor.
