Bought my first boat to cut, gut and rebuild from bow to stern, including engine. Killed my back and suffered the wrath of the fiberglass demons

stay away from harbor freight grinders unless you buy the warranty. they usually smoke on the first time you use them. I have an old craftsman (relabeled dewalt) 4.5" angle grinder that is over 30 years old. it has been re-greased 4 times, and is on its 3rd chord. it has ground welds on...

New to me boat with VP 5.7GS

There should be an adapter on the intake that can be removed to bolt on a 4-barrel. There are only 2 gaskets needed to go through a Holley 2300 2-barrel. Most of the crud will have blocked the metering plate passages. If you do a whole teardown there are only about 6 parts on the carb

FYI, something like that isn't rated to lift people. When lifting people, the proof test is 220% rated load. The proof test in the literature is only 125% What reach are you looking for? What height do you need to achieve? What list angle will you be operating at?

Harbor freight to buy Local equipment rental to rent (I think United Rental is still on Market St). I have even bought an A-frame gantry and hoist on Craigslist, use it for a week and sold it for same amount. (Net $0)

    Houston….. We’ve had a problem…..

New Johnson F5B-9 pumps are cheap if you look (under $150). Easy to rebuild too. (However the kit is 40-50% a new pump)

250#..... how far is the reach? That will determine how much you need to reinforce the deck and how high up you need a second bearing on the mast

    Wellcraft hulls

Wellcraft had a rail spur that delivered 40 tons of wood at a time. Most for the hull, some for the cabinets. Confirmed by the guy that used to order the wood in the 80s So yes, all wellcraft boats built in Sarasota Florida were wood structure hulls wrapped with a bit of glass. Even when...

    Transom repair on Lakeland fiberglass.

Those bits of box looking things with carpet on are the floatation. Foam with wood around it. You have to cut those out too and redo them

    Aplha 1, 3.0 - Exhaust & Manifold Help Please

Unfortunately that is rusted a significant amount. You could run a file across the surface but it looks like you would have to take off 1-2mm to get it to clean up, however I would suggest a new manifold

Fuel Gauge Stopped Working on my Boat

The fuel tank should never have a hot wire anywhere near it A green bonding wire, a black ground wire, and a pink signal wire to the gauge ( variable ground) I would look to see what short melted the wire and fix the issue

If you don't follow the SAE or ABYC wiring colors as an OEM or professional, you should be drawn and quartered. Every boat or car I have worked on in the past 25 years has followed the standards
