Merc 90 tower of power water in fuel

Condensation is not your issue. There is very little condensation and the alcohol present in regular unleaded gasoline will easily absorb it. The real fix is to lift the tongue of the trailer and pull the fuel gauge sender off the tank. Now stick a siphon hose into the bottom rear of the tank...

1999 Johnson 150 Bogs when warm

Does this only happen when you have run it and then stopped to fish or swim for an hour or so. Upon restart it runs poorly and wants to stall. Is that it? I am not sure of the fix. I would recommend you put in new thermostats, as it may have heat soak. Also, run it for a minute in neutral...

    Ignition switch & ignition circuit

Normally the M terminals are for magneto, which is the ignition system of outboards. However, your description is the opposite of that. I would expect you want to use the C terminals. You might doublecheck the function of those C terminals.

    Gas Appearing in bilge

The tank should not leak, regardless of temperature or fullness. In my experience the fuel tank gauge sender is the most likely leak, but the tank needs to be full or the boat needs to be in use. What is the tank made of? Aluminum can get pin holes in the bottom rear from water sitting there.

    porpoising problem

The prop change would not do that. Check the hull for straightness? Not sure what to suggest.

Fuel Tank Contamination (for your information)

Your motor (if a 1997 or newer) is made for unleaded alcohol fuel. The membranes and fuel lines will last just fine. A water separator is all the filtration you will need. it separates water by gravity, and contains a 10 or 20 micron paper filter which is more than adequate. Debris will not...

    Ignition switch & ignition circuit

Did you get the correct kill switch? You need one that opens, when tripped.

Bayliner....no clearance to remove steering cable?

Gee, I installed a 1/2" lag bolt in the header of the garage door. That and a cum-a-long (cable hoist), will lift the OB, if you have enough height. You can skip the hoist, drop the trailer tongue, connect a chain from OB to header and then raise the tongue and pull the mounting bolts.

Fuel Tank Contamination (for your information)

Find a better gasoline source. Fuel from gas stations should be clean and fresh. it sounds like you are getting old dirty gasoline. Rust in the carbs did not come from the carbs nor likely from the boat fuel tank. That points to the gas station I would recommend a fuel/water separator. You...

Merc 115 Tower of Power Won't start

You didn't remove the outer flywheel by any chance? Those get reinstalled wrong all the time, which can play havoc with the timing. Spray some 50::1 fuel into the carbs, pull up on the manual choke knob. cold start all the way up, and crank her.

Need help engine swap from Carb’d 135 to Optimax 150

It is likely time to test the possible sources of the alarms. Test the water separator sensor to see if it is generating an alarm. Test overheat sensor, oil tank level sensor, etc. The Service Manual should help. Does the motor alarm with the motor not running and the key in the on position?

    Low RPM at WOT

My 18 foot SeaRay 205HP 4.3LX would do about 42MPH at 4400RPM. It had a pretty good hull. I don't think a SBC V8 would have pushed it to 50MPH. Your speed may vary.....

Need help engine swap from Carb’d 135 to Optimax 150

Optimax's have several alarms. One of them is when the sensor detects water in the water separator. You might tell us the number of beeps or solid tone length.

Nightmare of a first time boat buying experience. Comments and advice appreciated!

Tows are expensive. How long was the tow in time? $4K for a tow should last several hours. That riser looks to have been in salt water, and as bad as it looks is likely original. Risers last 8-10 years in saltwater, and still work pretty well, but the passages are clogging at that time...

Merc 115 Tower of Power Won't start

If you want to check the timing, a timing light is necessary. I do agree that the would not normally change, but you have ruled out the other stuff...a motor needs spark, fuel and compression to run. You say you have those, so timing is logical to check. Maybe you inadvertently changed the...

Merc 115 Tower of Power Won't start

It is worth it to check the timing. Set the throttle to a point where the carbs are ready to open, but still closed. Remove prop. Turn ignition on and connect timing light to top spark plug wire. Jumper starter solenoid and read timing at decal. Timing should be 0-8* ATDC.

50MPH with a 4.3L in a 20 footer is very unusual. Good luck with that.

Where can i get longer steering cable for Evinrude 35853R?

You should post this in the Johnson/evinrude forum, and say it is for trim/tilt. As it reads, it is for a steering cable. PTT cables are usually just 3 wires. What part of the wiring harness do you need an extension for?
