Get a new heat exchanger kit from Orca or similar Mercruiser has has 20-30 different heat exchanger setups on the SBC alone between the early 70s and 2000s Being a 1997 you already have vortec heads.

    your opinion

the 350 with a carb has been around since the late 60's in boats However, your current motor is a 1986-1995 vintage your drive is a post 1992 if it was me, I would be taking your current block, vortec heads (1996 and later), a stroker crank/rods, LCQ style pistons and build a 6.2

Maybe my turn for new boat time

heavy fog is bad torrential downpour is bad at slow speeds, neither my hand-held or dash mount can keep direction, so if you look at my GPS tracks in the past after fog or heavy rain, its just a bunch of small circles. Now I have the dash compass as well

you have water in the exhaust. can be from any of the following: improper timing causing reversion improper cam causing reversion leaking manifold to riser joint causing water to run back in not enough SWL to riser height from factory too heavy a boat (water logged) causing the boat to sit...

    Engine choice

My guess is an idiot or a scam artist had the boat prior. You have a core block that will need at a minimum $1500 worth of parts and machining. To do it right you are looking at about $2500 As Scott mentioned, there are choices buy a reman, properly reman the one you have, or buy a salvage...

1982 omc stern drive wont go up or down

If you took the clutch pack apart, did you have the proper clamp to put it back together? Make sure you have all the clutch discs Check the hammer coupler and check voltages when trying to raise. If any of your connections are not shiny and clean enough for your mother in law to eat off of...

    1992 Bass Tracker

I would carefully pull the boat apart. making drawings and taking pictures as you go. then rebuild it back the way it came.

    Tracker

there are a few salvage yards. green bay propeller may have a tracker as they were big on lake michigan. but you have to walk the yard. it would be easier and quicker getting two made at your local aluminum fab company since white water marine is still making trackers, you can also check...

that is half the motor that boat needs, or twice as much boat as the motor wants to push If you didnt buy it, I would pass, however you already bought it the drive and motor are the least of your issues. do a few drill tests in the stringer and transom. I see rot

    Mercruiser 120 convert to automotive.

search facetube marketplace. with everyone yanking motors for LS swaps, the perfectly good old-iron is going for peanuts.

    Gauges fluctuating, bouncing around

you have bad connections. start at the battery, remove, clean and seal every connection all the way to the helm. pay attention to the ground buss under the helm.

    Mercruiser 120 convert to automotive.

no, there is no special bolt pattern. the merc 2.5 is the same as a Hyster fork lift 2.5 which is the same as a 1962 Chevy II 2.5. other than the big gap in lobe angles, small duration on the cam, the non-vacuum advance and the wet exhaust. its basically a small truck motor.

    Sputtering, sketchy acceleration, idle unsteady

my guess is you will find that you need to clean the fuel system including a carb rebuild.
