    What is to disprove. Marine gear oil will absorb up to 15% water (formulation dependent). I bought a case last year. Prices went up in past 12 months. I would never use non-marine gear oil in a lower unit.

    It's up to you to stay with the stringer and either rebuild the Ford motor or get a 1985 or older GM motor and the appropriate intermediate gear box Or Rebuild the transom and go with a Mercruiser setup.
