    Mercruiser engine alignment sideways

There is some side to side movement that is normal. When I did my engine a few years back I used the witness marks on the alginement tool to verify side to side alignment as well. We just shoved the engine sideways a little until it was equal grease lines on the tool. It helps to take some...

    Freese Plug

My neighbor years back didnt drian his block until after the first freeze, mechanic saw the same thing a core plug pushed out but no water in the oil... it wasn't until he used it 3-4 times and got it good and hot that he started (or noticed; he wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed) to see water...

    Exhaust Risers 4.3 L V6 carburated

I think merc used the restrictor gasket with the warm manifold cooling setup. If you have a cooling hose feeding the bottom of the manifold and a separate cooling hose feeding the elbows, the restrictor gasket is used. If you have the cold manifolds where the constant flow of cooling water where...

    Random alarm 5.7L carb'd Bravo 2

The TB module is seen directly behind your mercathode in the pic you posted. It is attched to the exhaust elbow. The knock sensor is piggybacked to it. The ignition module is the bigger rectangular module, the smaller one is the knock sensor

    Carburator frustration

How did you observe a noticeable increase in fuel delivery from the secondaries at the dock? when you think the secondaries open what rpm? You were thinking these issues were at or 2500 or less. At 2500rpm a 5.0will need 187 cfm , the secondary air valve isnt opening yet. You will hear the...

    Carburator frustration

when advancing the throttle on a carb with gas that is off the engine the only thing that will squirt gas in is the accelerator pump which is on the primary side only. Fuel will only come out out of the veturis when air is moving through them to create a pressure drop. you seem overly focused...

    Carburator frustration

Given this comment re the old carb Id still be suspicous of fuel starvation. If it is just a stumble off idle to 2500 rpm and then it recovers Bondo is likely right that it is the accelrator pump . You can try moving the hole the pump rod is in to the closest on on the pump arm this should...

Need instructions how to remove merc 2000 3.0 L Engine from Boat

You can leave the harness on the engine, disconnect the cannon plug from the boat harness (i think on a 3.0 is in the rear on the stbd side) remove the 12v positive battery cable frorm the starter lug, remove the negative battery cable from the flywheel cover. PS hoses disconnect at the cylinder...

Mercruiser 165 4 cylinder running hot

There is always supposed to be some water that bypasses the thermostat to cool the exhaust system regardless of if the thermostat is open or not Heat exchanger pop the ends off and jam a wire down the tubes, exhaust Id take off the discharge elbow and look in the water passages of the exhaust...

    No spark !!!!

BT has you steered straight -clean and file the points set with a dwell meter once you get it running. When properly maintained points are just as good as any ignition system, but this is why they did away with points too much maintenace.

    Adding gear lube

Thats how I fill it, up through the lube bottle with the top plug in. There is some air trapped in there somewhere as I always loose a little bottle level after using it a time or two, top it off and Im good for the summer.

    Carburator frustration

Plenty of GM cars back in the day used them. Mid 60's pontiacs used them until the Q-jet came out. The metering rods are nice for tunability and the secondaries are essentially vacum operated as the air valve is weighted and only opens based off what the engine needs much like the q -jet, just...

    Carburator frustration

Here's the link to the Edlbrock tuning guide https://edelbrock-instructions-v1.s3.amazonaws.com/edelbrock/carb-tuning-guide.pdf If you havent worth reading the first section on how the carb works. you need to determine if your issue is with WOT or part throttle cruise as that will lead you to...

Fuel supply to the carb, i know you said the fuel pump was replaced but have you measured the fuel pressure while running? What dot he contents of your fuel filter look like ? what do your plugs look like In terms of reading them for mixture clues? on my 5.0 i did not have to rejet when i...
