1973 mercruiser 120 HP no spark

Might have burned the coil out from all the smoke earlier I don't normally say this, but since coils are so cheap and we're having issues, might pick one up and change out. The issue is up thru 1973 the coil did not use a external resistor. Your wiring shows there is no start and run...

1973 mercruiser 120 HP no spark

You could but you said your seeing spark at the points. Seeing spark there means you should see spark at the coil. Take coil wire and put it close to the block to see if it will spark. Of place a spark plug on a plug wire and ground case to block

Maybe my turn for new boat time

Steering is 8 turns lock to lock. Can ya believe that 8 F ing turns. Guess that's why most these boats come with a joy stick Using shifters is about the only way to go and even that is tough. I'm just not getting much bite in reverse. Any kind of light breeze sends the boat moving off...

    My boat is being a boat . . .

Plumbing looks good and agree those fittings are bad news. Changed all the ones that leaked on the cruiser to compression. If I had to do over again I would use Reg PEX clamps and sharkbite if needed

I think we might have a terminology issue. For me the coil does not have R post, it has + and - and a center high voltage. Which one is the R post?

1973 mercruiser 120 HP no spark

The R post ? is that on the solenoid or key? If at the key then might partly a problem with the key switch. Should get power to I terminal when ON and S terminal when cranking. Looks like the Brown and Tan are tied together. With no voltage on either one will need to trace the wires. Check
